Thank you to everyone who came out to the Peoria Riverfront Market today!

Due to the annual Steamboat Race on the Riverfront, the market temporarily moved to Northwoods Mall—and both events saw great community support.

From runners and spectators to shoppers and local vendors, it was a busy day in the 309 and a great reminder of the energy that makes our community special. ☀️🛍️🏃🏽‍♂️

Ouch. 😫🥲

Unfortunately, this is becoming more common. Many large cities are facing financial pressures, limited room for growth, and increasing competition from suburban communities that can offer more land and, in many cases, stronger incentive packages.

Wow! This is actually happening! Dislike.

This evening, we welcome our Sister City, Friedrichshafen (Germany), as we celebrate five decades of cultural connections, youth exchanges, business partnerships, and enduring personal friendships between our two communities.

For 50 years, this partnership has strengthened international understanding, created meaningful opportunities for residents, and fostered relationships that continue to enrich both cities. We are proud to commemorate this milestone and look forward to many more years of collaboration and friendship.

Peoria Police Release Results of Traffic Enforcement Campaign

(PEORIA, IL) The Peoria Police Department is releasing the results of a recent Traffic Enforcement Campaign conducted on Thursday, May 28, 2026.
The campaign was part of the department's ongoing efforts to improve roadway safety, reduce traffic-related crashes, and address hazardous driving behavior throughout the city.
The enforcement detail focused its efforts on several high-traffic areas, including Sterling Avenue between Nebraska Avenue and the Interstate 74 overpass, the intersection of War Memorial Drive and Knoxville Avenue, and the intersection of Sterling Avenue and War Memorial Drive.
During the campaign, officers conducted 54 traffic stops and issued a total of 71 citations for various traffic violations.

The citations included:

• 32 for speeding

• 18 for the unlawful use of an electronic communication device while driving

• 9 for disregarding a traffic control device

• 4 for failure to change address

• 3 for driving without a valid driver's license

• 2 for operating a vehicle without insurance

• 1 for driving with a suspended driver's license

• 1 for operating a vehicle with a suspended registration

• 1 for an expired license plate

Speeding and distracted driving are common causes of traffic crashes. Our goal with these enforcement campaigns is to encourage safer driving and help prevent crashes before they happen.
"These traffic enforcement campaigns aren't just about issuing citations; they're about keeping our community safe. We want drivers to slow down, stay focused, and make safe choices when they get behind the wheel," says Peoria Police Chief Brad Dixon.
The Peoria Police Department will continue conducting traffic enforcement campaigns throughout the year in areas where traffic concerns have been identified.
We encourage all drivers to slow down, follow all traffic control signals, and stay focused on the road.
The Peoria Police Department will continue conducting traffic enforcement campaigns throughout the year in areas where traffic concerns have been identified.

I remember someone once saying there are only two seasons in Illinois: pothole-making season and pothole-fixing season.

Based on all the orange cones, detours, and my GPS constantly recalculating routes, I’d say we’re officially in road construction season. 🚧😂

I know the delays, lane closures, and unexpected turns can be frustrating. It seems like every time one project finishes, another crew appears just down the road. But these projects are investments in safer roads and better infrastructure for all of us.

So please be patient, give yourself a few extra minutes to get where you’re going, and drive carefully through work zones. Let’s keep our construction workers, first responders, and fellow motorists safe.

The good news? When construction season ends, pothole-making season will be right around the corner. 😅

We enjoyed attending the 2nd Annual Mayor’s Ball hosted by Mayor DeShawn Williams of Urbana, Illinois. It was great to see the impactful work he and his team are doing and to connect with so many leaders from across their community.

I always appreciate opportunities to connect with local elected officials throughout Illinois, especially those from Central Illinois. While our communities may face many of the same opportunities and challenges, we share a common goal: making our communities stronger and improving the quality of life for the people we serve.
