Sharon Brodisch gave me these two pictures to share and begin a great conversation about our history! These were taken at the Bucks Church annual picnic which was more like a homecoming than just a church picnic.

This picnic was held at Deckard’s woods which is on Center Road about 1/4 mile east of Bucks Valley Community Center (the old school house). Named “Deckard’s Woods”
by the locals in honor of the Deckard family who owes the property. That would be the gr grand parents of Anna Stephens, Susan Entsminger, and Charles, Brooks, and Hunter Smith. The same property where Adam Smith currently lives.

Folks would attend who haven’t lived in the Valley for years! It was a wonderful day to catch up with them and our other neighbors and friends while we enjoyed the best food (and desserts!) ever known!

I have added my own pictures from 2019 of the buildings still on site. The pavilion that was filled with the Ladies Aid members making sure all that food was just right! And who could forget those outhouses used only on that one day - still could be used by the way!

The ladies on the pictures are identified in the captions - still need one lady identified. If you recognize her, please comment with the names.

I would LOVE to bring this annual event back to life!!

Bucks Valley’s newest young entrepreneurs have set up an egg stand at 720 Center Road, Newport. When asked if they have a name for their business, Erin and James replied, "It doesn't have a name it's just an egg stand!" 🥚

Anyone needing some good free range eggs can buy them here by the dozen ($3) or a dozen and a half ($4). These cool kids take cash or Venmo!

Silent Night, Holy Night! All is calm, All is Bright!

Luke 2

6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.

7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.

17 And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.

18 And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.

19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! I hope that you have a wonderful day full of love, laughter and food! Make those memories!!!

As for Sunday, believe it or not, ADVENT BEGINS!! I always find it exciting to watch our members share a reading and light the candles as this season continues through Christmas. The decorations in each of our churches are always accents that add something else special to the worship services.

I wish you could have all been with me today as I stopped by Bucks on my way to the office with my young "assistant" Penelope. As they say, seeing it through the eyes of children! Penelope gasped as she saw the beautiful nativity set that Nancy Peters placed on the altar and then reacted the same way as she saw the Chrismon tree! I feel the same way each time I see it too, I just keep my gasps inside and wear a wider smile!

Pastor Greg's sermon this week, Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God, is based on two scriptures, Isaiah 2 and Matthew 24. I am not going to share the verses in this email as again the WHOLE picture is better if you read the entire chapters!

December 7 will be our annual Christmas celebration at Watts Buffalo Community Center. If you haven't signed up to attend, please respond to this post or message me with your RSVP.

See you in church!!
