Kip passed some time ago, but his legacy still lives on today in the memories of those who knew him and the stories they share with their colleagues. Such heroic acts should always be remembered and honored as they are here in Perrysburg. God bless the family and friends of Kip today and thank you to the men and women who keep us safe.

This weekend, we remember Patrolman Kip Boulis who gave his life in the line of duty while trying to save a family whose boat overturned in the Maumee River on May 30, 1976. Patrolman Boulis was 29-years-old at the time and had been a member of the Perrysburg Police Division for eight years. His sacrifice for the community will not be forgotten.

I was raised in a small rural Ohio town, and one thing I learned early in life is that every community matters and every person deserves to be heard.

That’s why my team and I are traveling across the entire 75th District, and will be visiting every city, village, township, and small town between now and Election Day on November 3rd. Whether you live in Perrysburg, North Baltimore, Grand Rapids, Pemberville, or anywhere in between, I want to hear from you.

I’m going to approach every community the same way I learned growing up in Okolona, Ohio: listen more, speak less, and work together to get things done.

This campaign is about people, not politics, and I’m excited to meet the people who make the 75th such a special place to call home.

It can be tough to know what is real on this platform. Well, this is as real as it gets. When someone asked me what I’m going to do to celebrate my retirement from the schools, I told them I’m mowing the lawn. “You’re kidding” they said. “Have you seen my lawn?”

I’m just a normal guy. This is who I really am. No flash. Country sensibility. Just trying to make the next day better through the work I enjoy. At the end of the day, I hope that is what people understand through this process.

Have a great weekend!

This is what community focused economic development looks like. Well done, Brenna!

Data centers have been the number one issue I’ve heard about as I’ve traveled Wood County. What residents have described to me is a symptom of a bigger problem: major decisions being made without transparency, without public input, and without any real accountability to the people who have to live with the consequences — on their electric bills, their water supply, their farmland, and their roads. This has already cost Ohioans $1.6 billion in tax breaks alone.

Our local communities should be the beneficiaries of economic development, not the victims. As county commissioner, I will:

✅ Oppose tax abatements that don’t include enforceable community benefits
✅ Push for transparency and public input from day one
✅ Support Project Labor Agreements and local hiring
✅ Work with townships and municipalities to strengthen local protections
✅ Advocate for state-level reforms that restore local control
✅ Never sign an NDA on a project that affects the people I represent

We can create good-paying jobs without selling out our communities. Growth should make efficient use of existing infrastructure, reflect community priorities, and deliver real, lasting returns — not just short-term gains for trillion-dollar corporations.

Wood County deserves both opportunity and accountability. I will fight for both.

My father, Lee Rettig, served in the US Army and Army Reserves from 1963 to 1969. I am incredibly fortunate to have had him by my side throughout my life teaching me the foundational values he learned in the military. Each Memorial Day, my thoughts turn to the service members who made the ultimate sacrifice and never returned home to reconnect with their families. This weekend, let us all pause to remember those who served, sacrificed, and protected our nation. It is because of them that we possess the freedom to live our lives and pass down those lessons. Wishing you all a thoughtful and reflective Memorial Day.
