Well the time of dread has come. The delinquent tax list will go to the paper this morning. The list is not meant to embarrass anyone it is simply required by law and should serve as a reminder to make sure all of your real property taxes are paid. I know that during these trying times we have all faced adversity whether it be a slow down in business or dealing with the virus. I pray that we all are stronger when we come out of this. If you see your name listed and I need to research it in any way please let me know. I'm always afraid that we have missed something, so I stress trying to look through a 130+ page report looking for names. God Bless!

Wishing you all a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving!

Tax statements will be mailed starting today. Just wanted to give you a few reminders:

**MASK ARE REQUIRED TO ENTER THE COURTHOUSE**

If you have a mortgage and your taxes are escrowed you will need to forward the statement to your mortgage company.

If you sold property after Jan 1, 2020 the statement will be issued in your name and you will need to forward to new owner if they are responsible.

If you purchased property after Jan 1, 2020 the statement will be issued in the name of the previous owner, but you can still pay in the office without a statement.

Also, to avoid the crowd and to allow social distancing we will utilize the drop box on the south side of courthouse. You may drop your payment in the box and we will process and mail your receipt. NO CASH ALLOWED IN THE DROP BOX. WE CAN ONLY ACCEPT CHECKS, MONEY ORDERS OR CREDIT CARDS IN THE DROP BOX.

Couple of things I want to post.

1.) Remember to get any unpaid taxes paid by Thursday. I have to deliver the delinquent tax list Friday morning so that it can be printed in The Neshoba Democrat on 8/19. I don't do this because I want to or to try and embarrass anyone. I do it because it is required by law.

2.) If you get a document in the mail from Webuyyourdirt please do not respond. They are wanting you to sign and return the form so they can get a purchase agreement to buy your property.

If you have any question on either of these items, please call the office at 601-656-4541.

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE
BEGINNING 4/14/2020
Due to the recent ‘Shelter in Place Order’ issued by Governor Reeves we are going to further limit close contact with the public in the Tax Assessors/Collectors office. We have had a drop box added to the SOUTH WINDOW of the courthouse. We will continue to process all payments received online and through the mail. If you must come to the office for a tag renewal or payment of any kind you will drop it in the mail slot (with required documents affidavits, military papers, disability forms or any type of credit slips) and payment (check, money order, credit card info) and we will process the payment and mail your receipt back. If you have a new purchase and need to process a title and tag purchase you will place your title application or title in an envelope with your payment (check, money order, credit card info). PLEASE INCLUDE A PHONE NUMBER WITH ANYTHING PLACED IN THE DROP BOX SO THAT WE MAY CONTACT YOU WITH ANY PROBLEMS. PLEASE DO NOT PLACE ANY CASH IN THE DROP BOX. If you need to know the amount of your payment, you may call the office (601-656-4541) and we will give you the amount due. I know that this is an inconvenience for us all, but it is a small price to pay to stay healthy.

Dear friends we are in perilous times and we are dealing with so much unknown. The Board of Supervisors on recommendations from the state as well as our local hospital has made the decision to close the courthouse immediately, so that we may limit the exposure within our county. We are asking that you please understand that we are working to get ahead of the curve. I will be here to answer the phone and to try and help you as much as possible. We will still process all payments received online as well as through the postal service, however we will be unable to process renewals in person. The governor has extended the deadline to file homestead until May the 1st as well as extending the deadline for filing personal property renditions to May 1st. If you need to file homestead I’m asking that you call the office and I will process your request over the phone so that once we are back open all you will need to do is come by and sign the application. Also, if you purchase a new vehicle we will have to schedule a time for you to come into the office and process this transaction. Please be courteous and understand that when we schedule this appointment we need for you to be prompt. We will meet you at the north entrance, you will hand me your paperwork through the door and wait for me to process your tag and bring your tag back to you and receive your payment. Again, I ask you to please understand that these are trying times for us all and that some of these procedures may need to be updated as we go forward. II Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us a spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Tax Assessor/Collector Mike Lewis, wants to remind Neshoba County homeowners that they have until April 1, 2020 to file homestead exemptions.
If you have a change in status, such as obtaining a new home, buying or selling land, death of a spouse, turning 65 years old, becoming disabled or getting married or divorced, a new homestead needs to be filed.
Homeowners who received the exemption last year and did not have a change in status need not reapply as their exemptions will automatically be renewed.
If you have any questions concerning your homestead exemption please contact the Neshoba County Tax Office at 601-656-4541.
