I’m not someone who gets emotional easily, especially when speaking publicly about my work. But during my recent NPR interview, I found myself in tears.
Talking about losing my sister, Ilene, and my fiancé, Teddy, to overdose left me feeling incredibly vulnerable. For a moment, I wasn’t an advocate or Executive Director. I was simply someone who deeply misses the people I love.
I spend so much time fighting for policy change, funding, and accountability that I sometimes forget how difficult it is to share the personal grief behind my advocacy.
Behind every overdose statistic is a person, a family, and a life that mattered.
That’s exactly why our upcoming Art of Dignity fundraiser on October 27 means so much to me.
It’s more than a fundraiser. It’s an evening of art, music, advocacy, and community dedicated to recognizing the humanity and dignity of people too often forgotten.
I hope you’ll take a moment to listen and join us in turning compassion into action.
