Sometimes, the clearest answers come to us in the quietest moments.

For Laura Thien, who will graduate from the Aleph Rabbinic Program this January, that moment of clarity arrived during a meditation sit at the Romemu Yeshiva. After years of teaching at a Jewish day school, she found herself drawn more deeply into Jewish meditation. In that stillness, she realized she had found her true spiritual home. That very night, she applied to Aleph.

When we make space to listen, our path often reveals itself.

Applications for Spring 2027 are due October 1, 2026. The Aleph Ordination Program welcomes students from diverse backgrounds and every denomination to prepare for lives of service as rabbis, cantors, chaplains, and spiritual leaders. Through rigorous study, deep spiritual practice, and a vibrant learning community, students engage the full spectrum of Jewish learning and practice while cultivating the leadership our communities need today.

Applications for the Trauma-Informed Leadership Training are now open.

Today’s spiritual leaders are called to do more than guide others through celebration. They are also called to help individuals and communities navigate grief, uncertainty, conflict, and healing with wisdom, resilience, and compassion.

Offered by Aleph in partnership with Thomas Hübl’s Academy of Inner Science, this rigorous eight-month training equips rabbis, cantors, chaplains, educators, and spiritual leaders with practical tools that integrate Jewish wisdom, trauma-informed care, contemplative practice, and community leadership.

Through four interwoven modules, participants will explore:
• Refuat Hanefesh, healing of the soul
• Bakshu Fanai, seeking direct experience
• Darkhei No’am, cultivating compassionate leadership
• Tikkun Olam, transforming our communities and our world

My favorite thing about Smicha Week? It isn’t just the learning. It’s the people.

Smicha Week is the one time each year that our entire seminary community comes together. Students, faculty, mentors, and leaders from across our rabbinical and ordination programs gather in one place to learn, pray, sing, wrestle with big questions, and grow alongside one another. There is something truly transformative about being in community with people who are all committed to deepening Jewish life and Jewish Renewal.

“I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine.” (Song of Songs 6:3)

These sacred words have echoed through Jewish tradition for centuries, reminding us that love is more than romance. It is presence. It is belonging. It is the sacred relationship we cultivate with one another, with our communities, and with the Divine.

As we celebrate Tu B’Av, the Jewish holiday of love, we honor the love that builds bridges, welcomes every soul, and reminds us that each person is created b’tzelem Elohim, in the Divine image.

At Aleph, one of the greatest gifts we hear is:

“I’m home.”

That is the heart of Jewish Renewal. A Judaism rooted in radical inclusivity, spiritual depth, joyful practice, and communities where everyone is invited to bring their whole selves.

May this Tu B’Av inspire us to open our hearts a little wider, deepen our connections, and continue creating communities where love is not only spoken, but lived.
