Midwives Are Healthcare Providers. It’s Time to Invest in Them!
Midwives are essential to America's healthcare system. Are we investing in them like we should?
Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs), Certified Midwives (CMs), and Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) provide essential care throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period, including reproductive, gynecologic, and primary healthcare.
Yet the United States has far fewer midwives than many other high-income countries—and our maternal health outcomes lag behind.
Expanding access to midwives and midwifery-led birth centers is an opportunity to strengthen our maternity care workforce and help more families access evidence-based care.
Investing in midwives means investing in America's health.
