Saturday was busy.

The first fawn had a very close call with a Bush Hog. It cut the skin on top of his nose. The sinus appears intact, and I can't find anything broken. We will be seeing a vet Monday for stitches (we hope).

The next baby came in after being found by a family dog, and carried home. Baby has a broken leg, that will have to be set. We will have to see our vet for that one, to too. The fracture feels "spiral", which is not easy to fix.

The third fawn was seen crossing a road with it's sibling. Just as the baby got across, it collapsed onto it's side. It was breathing heavy, and very weak. We gave fluids, and let it decompress. It took some oral electrolytes for me.

The little bunny got ripped by a w**d eater. It has a couple of small wounds, but looks good, overall.

Our vet visits will cost us this week. If you can donate to help us cover the costs, the babies would appreciate it!!

Intakes for the last couple of days.

I got a call from an officer about a fawn that needed help. The baby walked up to Maaco in Anderson, walked in the door and laid in the AC, like he owned the place. He said little dehydrated and a lot hungry. He is settling in well.

The little raccoon was found in a yard, with no family around. He has a little attitude, and appears healthy.

The little bunny came in with a sibling, which ended up passing before we got back. This one appears ok, and just needs a few days to finish growing to a releasable age.

Just a little bit of today.....

Answering calls is a HUGE part of what we do. Not every call leads to an intake, but every call does get help (as much as I humanly can). I take anywhere from 30-50 calls a day. I do my best to handle each one, or direct the caller to the appropriate rescue (song birds are the big one right now).

The Opossum (name is Pigeon) is almost big enough to release. He was found injured. The young lady treated his wounds and got him healthy. We took him to let him wild up, fatten up a little more, then soft release here.

The first fawn was seen last night, laying in a yard. I spoke with the finder this morning, and I was going to go observe, and make a determination from there. The baby left before I arrived. Tonight, he can't back out of the woods. This time he was crying, approaching people, and trying to find milk. I obviously took him. He was a little dehydrated and a LOT hungry.

The second fawn was found laying at a park in Six Mile. He is very weak, and very dehydrated. He had LOTS of maggots and fly strike. I got him cleaned up, meds in him, fluids in, and he is in the incubator to stabilize his body temp.

This little girl came in Sunday. She is the sweetest little thing. Her front legs are twisted, and her back legs have issues of their own issues, and she has an over bite. She could not nurse from Mom, so she was already having trouble when I got her. She is eating well, now, and we are working on correcting what we can.

We got a call yesterday about an adult Doe, laying near a road. She has obvious head trauma. There are no broken bones, fortunately. She allowed me to talk to her and do a full exam on the side of the road. Loading her up was a bit tricky, but I got her. After getting her back, I got her cleaned up, wounds cleaned and treated, meds onboard for the head trauma.

This little cutie is one of the babies that came in today. Her finder did exactly the right thing. She was seen yesterday, and heard crying a little. They stayed back and observed. Baby was in the same spot this morning, crying much louder and more frequently. When they went to investigate, there was another baby that had been killed. They grabbed this one up immediately and called for help.

This little one came in this evening. She was a pretty good ride to get her, but she needed immediate help. She was in a retention pond, and had a severely broken back leg. When I arrived, she was laying in shallow puddle. It was obvious she was in pain, and not feeling well. I got her leg stabilized, and got some heat on her for the ride home. Her core temp was pretty low, so I couldn't wait until we got back to work. As soon as we got back, I got the leg more stable, got fluids and meds in, and she is now resting in the incubator. We have done all we can for tonight. We are hoping for improvement in the morning.

This little monster came in yesterday evening. She weighs in at 1.75 pounds.... One of the smallest I've ever gotten. She is already taking the bottle. I suspect she is a triplet, because of her size. Man, is she a sweetheart.

Here are a few of the intakes from the last few days. I know ..... There's a cat in there, and we don't do domestics. There were special circumstances, and we couldn't say no. I couldn't begin to share each story, but each has one. It's definitely "that time of year".....lol.

Just a little bit of today.

The first fawn was heard crying for over a day. He is weak and dehydrated. He was placed in the incubator, after fluids.

The little Opossum was caught by a family dog (don't hate on the dog.... Dogs and opossum don't typically have great relationships). He has some injuries that we are working on.

We got in a mother opossum with a pouch full of babies, that I will get pics of for tomorrow.

The last fawn ( the staff at VEG named her Barbara) had cried all day today. She was in a kudzu thicket. The finder went in and got her, and took her to my friends at VEG. She was severely hypothermic, very low blood sugar, and a low heart rate. We are working on her, currently. If I have not told y'all, I LOVE the people at VEG.
