We are thrilled to unveil JYCA’s new purpose and logo! With the help and leadership of our youth board members, staff and community stakeholders from our 25 year history, we have conducted a strategic planning process in the past year to figure out JYCA’s foundation and roots. What do we stand for? How does what we do serve the greater movement? The feedback we got from our community was resounding - JYCA needs to focus more on action and organizing. With this in mind, our youth led us in devising a whole new purpose to guide us for the next 25 years and beyond. We also worked in collaboration with designers Rabbit Rabbit Studios and Micah Bazant to design a logo to reflect this purpose. Click below to see the logo. AND of course, don’t forget to purchase tickets to our 25th anniversary gala coming up next weekend! https://secure.givelively.org/donate/kehillah-community-synagogue-and-school/25th-anniversary-gala-fundraiser

We just closed out an INCREDIBLE year in our three programs, with virtual and in-person graduations for our JAM and OG seniors. There is so much to admire and uplift - our youth went big for our campaigns for climate justice, indigenous sovereignty and wage justice this year. They phonebanked hundreds of climate-concerned Jewish voters for the election, garnered local Jewish community support for the $15 minimum wage, and organized in coalition to save the West Berkeley Shellmound. JYCA youth exude power and zestiness, and you can see all this JYCA magic firsthand by joining us at our gala! At the gala, you can celebrate our youth and propel us to another 25 years of bringing Jewish youth leaders into our movements for justice. Invites for our 25th anniversary gala have dropped in physical and email inboxes!! Click the link in our bio to get your ticket now 🥳 On Sunday, June 6th at 4PM PT, get ready for an epic and zesty celebration of JYCA in the Zoom-iverse! We are looking forward to the next 25 years of JYCA by reflecting back on our past 25 years, and remembering the four headwaters that guide our work: Youth Empowerment, Political Education, Jewish Ritual, and Social Action. Much like the four headwaters of Eden in the Torah, these headwaters all come from the magic of JYCA and flow in different directions to reverberate into the lives of folks in our community.

This past weekend, our youth mobilized to support Ohlone efforts for indigenous sovereignty and the call to Save the West Berkeley Shellmound with Jews on Ohlone Land and hundreds of others.

In the face of the barbed wire fence erected by the developers, the ask from those fighting to save the Shellmound was to come and offer prayers for the land. JYCA youth came together, tied prayer ties on the fence, and left signs of support. We also hosted a havdalah ceremony at the end of the event, and sang and prayed together

Jewish Support for Asian Lives

Beloved Jewish community, we must stand with our Asian neighbors, friends, siblings, and family, right now and all the time. Our hearts are heavy over the recent surge in anti-Asian violence, including yesterday's tragic death of six Asian American women in Georgia and the murder of elder Pak Ho in Oakland Chinatown on March 9th. To Asian Jews in our community, and our Asian American family at large: we see you, we love you, and we grieve with you. We are committed to fighting the xenophobia, white supremacy, misogyny and other unjust systems of oppression that spurred on these attacks.

In Jewish tradition, we often say “may their memory be a blessing.” Together, in solidarity, we can ensure their memory may be not only a blessing, but also a revolution.

Jewish youth say #StopLine3! Line 3 is a proposed oil pipeline expansion that will bring close to a million barrels of tar sands from Canada to Wisconsin. If built, line 3 will threaten the livelihood of Minnesota's indigenous Anishinaabe people by endangering their supply to clean water, wetlands and wild rice. Line 3's construction is not only disastrous for the environment, it will violate the treaty rights of indigenous people.

Join us and GreenFaith tomorrow at their interfaith day of action event in Oakland at 11AM, register here: https://actionnetwork.org/events/sacred-people-sacred-earth-interfaith-action-to-stop-line-3. As Jewish youth fighting for a just world, we have stood in solidarity with indigenous folks in our fight for climate justice through partnerships with Jews on Ohlone Land and Sogorea Te' Land Trust. We are proud to continue this solidarity by fighting to Stop Line 3.

It’s been quite a while since I’ve been active with JYCA, but nonetheless my passion for civil rights is stronger than ever and now is the time to act. I have created a petition against the unjust to***co regulations put in place by the Trump Administration. Although glorified as a means to eliminate the worst consequences of to***co use, but is just another means of oppressing the young and decreasing corporate responsibility. The link to the petition is provided below. Petition:
