Reporter Payden Hinkle and photojournalist Noah Lockard from FOX 56 News in Lexington, Kentucky stopped by The Old Mill to learn how things work around here.

Their morning started inside the mill with Head Miller Chuck Childers, where they learned how grain is still milled the old-fashioned way. Then it was outside with Jimmy Proffitt, Historian and the waterwheel as the cameras rolled for a live segment.

Next stop: The Old Mill Restaurant.

The plan was to watch biscuits being made. That didn't last long.

Before long, Payden was rolling dough, cutting biscuits, and getting a hands-on lesson in a tradition that's still part of every morning here.

From the mill to the restaurant, it was a morning full of stories, history, and a little extra flour.

Just another morning at The Old Mill.

The view may change with the seasons, but the work remains the same.

Behind this screen door, millers have been tending the grindstone, listening to the waterwheel, and milling grain since 1830.

Still going. Still grinding.

Getting ready for America's 250th at The Old Mill has us thinking about something we've been doing here in Pigeon Forge for a long time: slowing down.

Stay for lunch, browse the shops, grab an ice cream cone, and enjoy an afternoon around the property. No rush.

06/01/2026

There's something timeless about a place where you can watch pottery being made, enjoy old-fashioned candy, grab an ice cream cone, and gather around the table with family.

As America celebrates 250 years, we're celebrating the traditions, craftsmanship, and simple moments that still matter.

This Memorial Day, we remember and honor the men and women who gave their lives for our country.

As America approaches 250 years, places like The Old Mill still stand as reminders of the generations who built, served, sacrificed, and helped shape the country we know today.

You can smell the caramel before you even walk in.

This Memorial Day weekend, stop by the The Old Mill Candy Kitchen for warm caramel made from scratch in copper kettles, old-fashioned taffy pulling, and caramel apples that somehow disappear faster than you planned.

The sweet employee behind the counter handing you candy might just be part of the experience, too. 🍎🍬
