1st class: The objective for the papa making class is to learn the old way to kabla (Cut thin) meat and to preserve by air drying and with a dehydrator. They will learn how long each way takes and the challenges for drying both ways. They will also learn storage methods and the benefits of having dried meat.

2nd class: Learn how to turn the papa into the wasna, what ingredients are used, why they are used, what the wasna is used for, and they will see and use the tools I have to make the wasna. They will also learn the teachings/protocols of when we should not make wasna and why. They will be able to taste test their finished product.

3rd class: Focus on making the wagmiza wasna, or the corn wasna. I will show them how to cook the cornmeal/corn, what ingredients they will use, and they will see and use the tools I have to make the wasna. They will also learn the teachings/protocols of when we should not make wasna and why. Participants will also learn about other wasna even if we do not have the ingredients. They will be able to taste test their finished product.

My name is Cassandra Black Horn, my Lakota name means Her Beautiful Voice Eagle Woman. My parents are Cy and Gayla Black Horn. My grandparents are Paula Loud Hawk, Stella Iron Cloud, and Gordon Weston Sr. I am an enrolled member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe. I was born and raised in Oglala. I graduated high school from Pine Ridge High School. I proceeded to join the Navy after graduating. I was in the service for 8 years. My job within the Navy was titled Aviation Ordnance. An area of keeping track of all ordnance, building/loading ordnance, and keeping our Ship safe. After my time was done, I moved home with my two beautiful children, January 2022. I started my Bachelors Degree in K-12 Lakota Studies Education at Oglala Lakota College. Continued to work, go to school, and attend to my children. Within these years I have worked within our tribal politics and school systems. I recently left Lakota Tech High School where I worked with special education. Helping youth, connecting with families has always been a joy brought to my life! I am excited, honored, and thankful to be a part of our Tiwahe Team! I hope to help those that I can!
