🚨Apparatus Spotlight Series - Week 9 🚨
Before modern fire trucks, before enclosed cabs, before air conditioning and heated seats, there was The Buffalo.
Our 1939 Buffalo fire engine is a true piece of firefighting history. With seating for three up front and room for as many firefighters as you could squeeze onto the back, this truck represents a different era of the fire service. No cab. No heat. No air conditioning. Just firefighters, determination, and a machine built to answer the call.
For years, The Buffalo was the backbone of firefighting operations, responding to emergencies and serving the community when it needed it most. While its days on the fireground are long behind it, its legacy lives on. Today, it proudly rests inside our fire hall, visible through the large north-side windows as a reminder of where we’ve come from and the generations of firefighters who came before us.
Although it only makes a few appearances each year, every time it rolls out of the station it turns heads and brings back memories. It’s more than just an old truck—it’s a symbol of our department’s history, tradition, and pride.
As we wrap up our 9-week apparatus showcase, everyone at the Pipestone Fire Department would like to thank you for following along. We’ve enjoyed sharing our equipment, our history, and a little bit about what makes our department special.
