The US Forest Service has contracted a logger to remove down timber at the Fullerton Recreation area. This a huge step in the Forest Service being able to reopen the facility.

Wishing Everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Just wanted to let everyone know that the Forest Service met with the Fullerton Community Association and told them that they were actively working to restore and reopen Fullerton Recreation Area. It may take several months because the damage is so extensive but when it reopens it will be better than before hurricane Laura.

Well, it's been a while but we are finally back. Thanks to the Fullerton Community Association for the purchase of new benches and the US Forest Service and members of the Association for installing the benches around the playground and near the pavilion and along the hiking trail. So come on out and enjoy the Fullerton Recreation Area.

01/31/2020

If you haven't been out to the Fullerton Recreation Area in a while the Forest Service has done a great job of clearing out some of the brush. They have planted winter grass and it looks really nice. In addition they have prescribe burned some of the around the recreation area. If you get a chance you need see the work they have done.
The installation of the new benches have been delayed for a little while because the Forest Service has been cleaning up the other recreation areas and trails due to the recent tornado. Once they get everything back on track, they will install the benches.

A special thank you to the Fullerton Community Association and the U.S. Forest Service, Calcasieu Ranger District for making the event a success. I would also like to thank the demonstrators and the musicians for sharing their time and talent. Without their participation this event would not be possible.

For those interested in the sawmills and railroads of west Louisiana and east Texas, the book, "Early Sawmill Towns of the Louisiana-Texas Borderlands" by W.T. Block, is a must read. Unfortunately it is no longer in print. Your local library may have a copy. A search of the internet found a copy at LSU-Alexandria, and at McNeese. I did not find any used copies on the internet.

07/31/2019

October 19th will be here before you know it, so make plans to attend Fullerton Sawmill Day. It's going to be a wonderful day for family and friends to be at the Fullerton Recreation Area.

07/31/2019

If you have not been to the Fullerton Recreation area recently the Forest Service has ground down most of the stumps in the recreation area. It looks much nicer an will make mowing the area much easier.

07/31/2019

New benches will installed around the playground area in the near future. A special thank you to the Fullerton Community Association and the the US Forest Service.
I have also been told a water fountain will be installed at the playground as well.

This is a picture of the Engine Roundhouse and Repair Shop at Fullerton. Even though it did not have a turntable for the locomotives it was still referred to as the Roundhouse. If you look closely you can see someone working on one of the log cars directly in front of the building. The pits for working on the locomotives and cars is located along the Sawmill Trail at Fullerton.

Now is the perfect time to get out an hike the trails at Fullerton. Its not suppose to rain until the weekend, hopefully.

Figured everyone should be aware of this!😔
my father, joe h cooper lived n fullerton as a child. His father, dock cooper would bring the payroll for the mill on horseback.
Does anyone know if there are hookups available? Water for camper? Thanks
Does anyone know if the pavilion has electricity in or near it.
My husband left this backpack probably near the playground on Wednesday. If anyone found it we would really appreciate it and I will drive back out to get it.
Someone is putting dead deer and hog carcuses right beside where the old pool is located this is very disrespectful and un called for this is a place people love to come and enjoy and people like that ruin it for everyone. More pics in comments warning some pictures may be grapgic.
Just out of curiosity what happened to the camper behind the new restroom?
