Green Drinks 2026!
Last night we had the pleasure of hosting our Third Annual Green Drinks Event at Neck of the Woods Brewing Company!
The night was filled with cheers, networking, and collaboration!
Sustainable Pitman leadership, Francesca Mundrick and Jimmy Asparas, led a sustainability think tank where attendees shared their vision for a more sustainable Pitman and greater South Jersey.
Think Tank Results!
It is important to boost civics. More young people need to be involved in volunteerism and local government.
Local people are responsible for local environments- we have a voice and we have the power to make change through action. Change occurs locally with consistency and dedication.
Invasive species removal must continue and be consistent.
In a globalized, corporatized world, we need to be increasingly resilient, self-sufficient, and focused on our local community. Our decisions on what we buy and how we live matter.
Vineland and other South Jersey towns have really amazing green spaces and parks. It is essential that Parks & Rec Departments are informed about environmental issues and manage parks with ecology in mind. More education and signage is needed at park spaces- this can be achieved through grants and special projects- even led by an independent citizen.
Not everyone has to serve in leadership roles with organizations or local government to contribute to local environmentalism- anyone can be an environmental advocate. Showing up, doing the volunteerism, and asking questions matters.
Understand that change is tiered- policy, outreach, and organizing. Change takes planning and follow through. Know how local government works, know your political leaders, take time to design your strategy and ideas.
Hope and optimism are necessary for progress.
Bird watching is a worthy and exciting hobby- especially after you turn 30!
Small actions seem insignificant, but every action causes a ripple and inspires others more than you imagine.
Pitman is sustainable already- our community is walkable, bikeable with many "third spaces" and access to resources. Our community features a diversity of active groups and many opportunities to get involved.
Sustainability is not just environmental it is social and economic. Sustainability is about decision making that is systematic- accounting for the needs of our communities, environmental health, and economic progress.
Special thank you to Neck of the Woods Brewing Company and Tri-County Sustainability for supporting us!
