It was an outstanding evening celebrating the power of creativity, education and opportunity!

My office attended a special screening of Pursuing Light: The Bill Strickland Story at The Lindsay Theater in Borough of Sewickley.

The documentary tells the story of Bill Strickland, founder of Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild, Manchester Bidwell Corporation, and affiliated schools across the country and in Israel. His work is a powerful example of how investing in people, nurturing creativity and expanding access to education can transform lives and strengthen communities.

The screening brought together Bill Strickland, Anthony Cascione, president of Strickland Corp., and Director Karen Somers to celebrate a remarkable story and a lasting legacy.

Thank you to everyone who helped bring this story to the screen and continues to make a difference through education and opportunity!

I enjoyed visiting Leetsdale Manor to hold a legislative update and constituent service session with residents. We discussed legislation, including House Bill 1394, my bill to eliminate the Inheritance Tax, along with services my office provides, such as assistance with the Property Tax/Rent Rebate program.

Thank you to Mayor Sandra Ford and Borough Council President Maria Napolitano for joining me and for their continued partnership and commitment to the community. I also appreciate everyone who took the time to attend and share in the conversation.

During my visit to Wilson Elementary School in the West Allegheny School District, I had the opportunity to tour the historic McAdow-McAdam Wilson Log House.

Dr. Rachel Gray, principal, shared the story behind this piece of local history, including what the log house means to the community, the history of Log House Day, and the programs and future tours that will help keep its story alive for generations to come.

Today, as a member of the Pennsylvania Anti-Human Trafficking Caucus, I participated in a press conference at the state Capitol highlighting the findings of Pennsylvania’s first statewide Anti-Human Trafficking Survey.

The survey gathered input from nearly 200 stakeholders, including survivors, law enforcement, educators, faith-based organizations and social service providers. While 97.3% support better coordination of regional services and increased public awareness, the findings also revealed some serious gaps.

Only 25% of law enforcement and first responders said they felt equipped to identify human trafficking, and just 3.2% said sufficient aftercare services are available for survivors.

These findings reinforce the need for greater education and training, stronger coordination, additional resources and expanded support for survivors. We all have a role to play in recognizing the signs of human trafficking and helping ensure victims have the support they need.

Today, the House Communications and Technology Committee, of which I am a member, held a voting meeting and advanced House Bill 2637, legislation that would establish a moratorium on the sale of children’s toys containing AI chatbots.

There are some very good points in this bill, especially when it comes to protecting children from inappropriate content, safeguarding their privacy and making sure parents understand the technology being built into the toys their children use.

However, I have concerns about portions of the legislation that need to be cleaned up. It’s important we get this right and make sure any legislation we advance is both effective and workable.

I voted in the affirmative today. The bill passed the committee and will now head to the full House for consideration.

Recently, I visited Wilson Elementary School in the West Allegheny School District, where I met Cooper, a therapy dog who has become a very special part of the school.

Therapy dogs, such as Cooper, can help students feel more comfortable, manage stress, build confidence and have a friend nearby when they need one. West Allegheny has 15 therapy dog teams serving its schools, and I was fascinated to learn more about how these dogs are trained, what a typical day looks like and the many ways they can “save the day” for students and staff.

During my visit, I interviewed Dr. Rachel Gray, principal of Wilson Elementary, about how this initiative got started and the impact it has had on the school community. We also talked about Cooper’s favorite things to do and why having a therapy dog around can make such a difference.

𝐆𝐚𝐲𝐝𝐨𝐬 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐀𝐈 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐢𝐥𝐥

HARRISBURG – Rep. Valerie Gaydos (R-Allegheny) is co-sponsoring bipartisan legislation to protect Pennsylvanians from artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots that falsely represent themselves as licensed professionals or use fake professional credentials.

“Protecting our kids, families and consumers from deceptive artificial intelligence is a priority, and this is legislation we must get right,” said Gaydos. “After considering input from various stakeholders, I’m proud to support bipartisan legislation that will give Pennsylvanians greater confidence in knowing who they are interacting with when they turn to AI.”

The legislation would prohibit AI chatbots from falsely claiming to hold a Pennsylvania professional license or using false credentials, including license numbers. It also would require chatbots to clearly disclose that they are not licensed professionals when discussing matters within a licensed profession.

The proposal follows the Shapiro administration’s lawsuit against Character.AI after a chatbot allegedly represented itself as a licensed Pennsylvania psychiatrist and provided an invalid state license number. The legislation would establish these protections across all licensed professions in Pennsylvania.

“As a member of the House Professional Licensure Committee, I believe Pennsylvania’s laws need to keep pace with rapidly changing technology,” said Gaydos. “AI can be a useful tool, but it should never be allowed to create confusion about whether someone is receiving advice from a licensed professional.”

Gaydos serves as chair of the Pennsylvania House Artificial Intelligence Opportunity Task Force and is a member of the House Communications and Technology Committee.

The legislation would also give the Office of Attorney General enforcement authority, including the ability to impose civil penalties for violations.

It was a great turnout at our shredding event at Edgeworth Elementary School . It was nice connecting with many constituents while providing a safe and convenient way to securely dispose of confidential documents.

We are grateful to Edgeworth Borough’s Public Works crew, Assistant Borough Manager Amy Brown, and the Edgeworth Police Department for their support in making the event a success.

We appreciate everyone who stopped by and helped make today a great community event.
