Last Friday, the Zone 5 Pittsburgh Bureau of Police and Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire spent quality time with children at the University of Pittsburgh’s Community Engagement Center in Homewood for a fun Community Day.

The Zone 5 Public Safety Council (Zone 5 PSC) also attended to foster community involvement for the resident-led safety group.

On Saturday, Pittsburgh Public Safety Department Director Sheldon Williams, Assistant Chief Vinansky, and Zone 5 Commander Hoyson participated in a town hall event with Mayor Corey O'Connor at the Kingsley Association.

The meeting was held by the East End Collaborative, which is a collective of registered community organizations that represent the communities of Larimer, East Liberty, Homewood, East Hills, and Lincoln-Lemington-Belmar.

Representatives from Parks and Recreation, the Department of Public Works (DPW), the Pittsburgh Mobility and Infrastructure (DOMI), and Permits, Licenses, and Inspections (PLI) were also on hand to provide information and take questions.

Community members shared concerns about a number of items, including ways to engage with youth, gun violence and quality of life issues such as abandoned properties, which can have an impact on crime in neighborhoods.
