Aviation Machinist’s Mate 1st Class John Siwa was born and raised in Bhutan, and considers Pittsburgh his home town. He has been in the Navy for over 13 years.

AD1 says he joined the Navy to say “thank you” to this great country.

“This country gave my family the opportunity to come here, build a life, find hope, and pursue a future we may never have had anywhere else.”

AD1 says that the Navy has given his family stability and a strong sense of purpose. Through his service, the Navy has provided his family with a steady career, benefits, and opportunities that have helped him build a better future

Siwa says he became a recruiter because he enjoys working with people and helping them find opportunities where they can really thrive.

Prior to NTAG Pittsburgh, Siwa served at Airborne Command & Control Squadron (VAW) 116 , Fleet Readiness Center Mid-Antlantic (FRC MIDLANT), and Airborne Command & Control Squadron (VAW) 125.

Another month, another DEP meeting!

Recruiters from NRS Monroeville gathered their pool of Future Sailors for some training at their latest delay entry program meeting. Learning from one another makes us stronger as a team. Every opportunity to train builds confidence, strengthens communication, and helps us work together more effectively.

Commercial airlines aren’t the only ones who need traffic management. In the Navy, our fighter jets, helicopters and reconnaissance aircraft need vigilant Air Traffic Controllers to keep flight decks and airstrips in check.

As an AC, you work against moving runways, inclement weather and mechanical issues to get personnel safely to the ground. Navy aircraft are moving all the time, so it’s your responsibility to organize air traffic and communicate critical information to pilots.

With extensive training in radar and air traffic communications, this rate is one of the easiest to translate into a civilian career post-service. As an Air Traffic Controller, you can command the skies.

Chief Yeoman Eric Primero Santiago, a former recruit division commander, visited NRS Johnstown for their delayed entry program meeting. He was able to answer any questions the future Sailors had about boot camp, and share his first-hand experience on how RDCs train recruits.

The delayed entry program allows recruiters to mentor their future Sailors to ensure that they are prepared for boot camp.
