Residential Structure Fire in Unincorporated Plainfield
Plainfield, IL
On May 31, 2026, at approximately 7:55 a.m., the Plainfield Fire Protection District was dispatched by the Western Will County Communication Center (WESCOM) to a reported residential structure fire in the 10 block of Andy Court in unincorporated Plainfield.
Upon arrival, the first responding units encountered fire conditions at the rear of the residence, with flames extending into the attic space. Fire crews quickly initiated suppression operations to contain and extinguish the fire.
The sole occupant of the home had safely evacuated prior to the arrival of emergency personnel. The individual was evaluated and treated on scene for smoke inhalation but declined transport to a hospital. No firefighter injuries were reported.
Due to the lack of fire hydrants in the area, water tenders were utilized to shuttle water to the scene, ensuring a continuous water supply for firefighting operations.
The residence has been deemed uninhabitable, with estimated damages totaling approximately $300,000.
The Plainfield Fire Protection District was assisted at the scene by multiple agencies, including the Owego Fire Protection District, Joliet Fire Department, Lockport Fire Protection District, Troy Fire Protection District, Minooka Fire Protection District, Romeoville Fire Department, Naperville Fire Department, Bristol Kendall Fire Protection District, Channahon Fire Protection District, the Plainfield Emergency Management Agency, Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, NICOR, and ComEd.
During the incident, fire station coverage for the Plainfield Fire Protection District was provided by the Romeoville Fire Department, Northwest Homer Fire Protection District, Montgomery Fire Department, Bolingbrook Fire Department, and the Darien-Woodridge Fire Protection District and Lockport Fire Protection District.
The fire was investigated by Plainfield Fire Protection District Investigators, in conjunction with MABAS Division 15 Fire Investigators. The cause of the fire has been determined to be unintentional.
