Reminder for the Yak, Snack, & Read "Tea-Rex Party and Book Discussion". Being held on Monday, July 13 at 7:00pm OR Saturday, July 18 at 11:00am. Book: "Dragon Teeth" by Michael Crichton. Get the book from the Reference department. And register at the Reference desk in person, by phone at (516) 938-0077, or via email at [email protected].

About the Book: In 1876, as gold-rush towns rise and Native tribes fight across the Wild West, rival paleontologists Othniel Charles Marsh and Edwin Drinker Cope wage the infamous Bone Wars, sabotaging each other in a ruthless hunt for dinosaur fossils. Yale student William Johnson joins Marsh to win a bet, but is stranded in Cheyenne after being accused of spying for Cope. Teaming up with Cope instead, William uncovers a historic fossil discovery—and must fight to protect it from the West’s most dangerous foes.

Today we remember and celebrate Juneteenth.
On this day in history, June 19, 1865, the Union Army made its way into Galveston, TX under the leadership of General Gordon Granger, and he announced to the people of Texas that all enslaved African Americans were free. “Juneteenth is a second Independence Day—a chance to remember, to honor, to celebrate.” — Opal Lee
