Water is such a crucial part to creating electricity through typical power plants. Fossil fuel fired thermoelectric power plants consume over 30 Billion gallons of water every day in the U.S. alone.
It takes about 25 gallons of water to produce just 1 kWh of electricity. Think about it, if you average 1,800 kWh a month in electricity, that's 45,000 gallons of water a month and 540,000 gallons of water per year that is used to produce electricity for your home.
