The Collin College Visual Arts program offers foundation art classes in drawing, design and art appreciation as well as specialized classes in the fields of painting, watercolor, ceramics, printmaking, sculpture, art metals, computer art and art history. In addition to the 33,000 square-foot Visual Arts Center at the Spring Creek Campus, Collin College also offers a wide range of classes at the Preston Ridge and Central Park campuses. All labs include professional quality equipment such as two intaglio printing presses, a variety of ceramic kilns, electric pottery wheels, metal casting, smithing and fabrication equipment. Seminars in professional practices help prepare students to function as visual artists. Professors are highly trained, practicing artists who are dedicated to encouraging the individual student to reach his or her highest level of skill and creativity. Annually, the Visual Arts Department provides students with various opportunities to participate in art exhibits, panel discussions on selected art topics, visiting artists' demonstrations, and portfolio reviews by representatives of area universities. The Spring Creek Campus also houses gallery and exhibition space.

Hello International Art Lovers,

I was just informed today that former Collin art student, Sharon Ventura, will be showing in the upcoming Florence Biennale 2017. Sharon will be showing 6 paintings from her new series (6 is the max paintings anyone is allowed to exhibit). The opening is on the 6th of October.

Below is the artist bio for Sharon.

Biographical Profile

Artist: Sharon Ventura

Country of Origin: Canada, residing in Bonn, Germany since 2009

Pop-Figurative Abstract Painter. Ontario College of Art: Fine Art, Canada. Further studies: US & Paris, France. Exhibitions: North America and Europe. Ventura’s bold colored, figurative female themes fuse fine art drawing & composition with influences of Impressionism, Art Nouveau, painting on silk techniques and Pop Art. Her mother’s constant request to “paint her something beautiful” led her focus to creating beauty through art. Her new Series project evolved due to influences by artists Tracey Emin and Sarah Lucas.

VENTURA “V” SERIES: 69 PAINTINGS takes the portrayal of the female form in a lady-like direction. Each painting shares the same navel baring, crossed-legs perspective and simple V signature. However, the variety of themes and symbols individualize each painting as provocative, sensual springboards for the imagination.

CONGRATS SHARON and best of luck abroad!

“In my art appreciation classes, we've been discussing art and activism. Here was their assignment post-election: This particular election has caused a lot of contentious divisiveness in our country. In the spirit of using art as a tool for social awareness and activism, your assignment is to create a 30 second video that appeals/persuades people to:
1. come together
2. unify
3. put aside their differences
4. listen to each other
5. have a peaceful dialogue
6. make a difference in their community
