Lately, some citizens have been receiving scam phone calls from what appears to be the Social Security Administration. Please keep this information in mind:

If there is a problem, we will mail you a letter with your Social Security number. Generally, we will only contact you if you have requested a call or have ongoing business with us. The latest scam trick of using robocalls or live callers has increased. Fraudsters pretend to be government employees and claim there is identity theft or another problem with one’s Social Security number, account, or benefits.
Scammers may threaten arrest or other legal action, or may offer to increase benefits, protect assets, or resolve identity theft. They often demand payment via retail gift cards, wire transfers, pre-paid debit cards, internet currency, or mailing cash.
Our employees will never threaten you for information or promise a benefit in exchange for personal information or money. Social Security may call you in some situations, but will never:
• Threaten you.
• Suspend your Social Security number.
• Demand immediate payment from you.
• Require payment by cash, gift card, pre-paid debit card, internet currency, or wire transfer.
• Ask for gift card numbers over the phone or to wire or mail cash.
Don’t be fooled! You should look out for:
• A caller saying there is a problem with your Social Security number or account.
• Any call asking you to pay a fine or debt with retail gift cards, wire transfers, pre-paid debit cards, internet currency, or by mailing cash.
• Scammers pretending they’re from Social Security or another government agency. Caller ID or documents sent by email may look official but they are not.
How to protect yourself and your family!
• If you receive a questionable call, hang up, and report the call to our Office of the Inspector General.
• Don’t return unknown calls.
• Ask someone you trust for advice before making any large purchase or financial decision.
• Don’t be embarrassed to report if you shared personal financial information or suffered a financial loss.
• Learn more at oig.ssa.gov/scam.
• Share this information with friends and family.

The Plano Police Department was approached by a group of citizens that wanted to organize a peaceful protest. This information was conveyed to our organization: On Saturday June 6th from 3p-5p there will be a peaceful protest to support Black Lives Matter. The starting point for this event will be at the corner of John Street and West Street and eventually walk south on West Street to US Rt. 34, where they will peacefully congregate on the sidewalk and exercise their right of freedom of speech. There will be police presence during this time to ensure everyone’s safety while exercising their right to protest. In an effort to make sure the protestors are safe, we will be blocking off the following areas:
1. West Street will be blocked going southbound from the railroad tracks.
2. John Street will be blocked westbound from Hugh Street.
3. West Street will be blocked going northbound from US Rt. 34
Our organization wanted to pass on the above information so that our citizens are aware of the event and so that you may take alternate routes during these times.

Citizens:

The City of Plano, Plano Police Department, and the Kendall County Health Department would like to remind everyone of this very important information:

Safe Apartment Living

While living in an apartment, please be mindful of other residents, and every family’s desire for a safe and healthy living environment. The following actions are especially important to those who reside in community apartment buildings:

• Keep your living space clean and disinfected
• Wear a cloth face covering when outside of your apartment
• Avoid sharing the elevator and stair well with others, with those outside of your family
• Visit laundry room and mailroom during off hours
• Wash hands before and after having been in common areas, such as laundry room or mailroom
• Wash hands before and after touching doorknobs, buttons, and banisters
• Always social distance when outside of your apartment by at least 6 feet
• Create and practice alternative methods of social interaction with family and friends
• Avoid running errands if you or a household member are sick or have symptoms of COVID-19
• Avoid receiving visitors, unless the visitor is providing an essential service

It is important today, more than ever that everyone works together to ensure all community members are safe. Also, as warm weather approaches, we must all work together to follow the Governor's orders for social distancing and social gathering numbers to keep everyone safe!!

Beginning May 4 the City Hall Lobby will be open to the public on a limited basis to pay utility bills, fines and permits. There will be only one person at a time allowed in the Lobby and Face Masks are Required.
We encourage everyone to continue to pay their water bills and permit fees remotely by credit card or use the drop box on the east side of City Hall.
If you are unable to use those options and need to enter the lobby, have your face mask in place before entering the building. Do not enter City Hall if you are feeling ill or have a fever.
I truly appreciate your understanding and patience during this time. Please follow State and CDC recommendations for social distancing. Stay Safe !!!
Respectfully Yours, Mayor Bob Hausler
