Right.
Runoff Election GOTV efforts in Plano, TX.

The Julie Holmer campaign has divvyed up Precinct 34 - The Fighting 34th, into THIRTY separate turfs.

Each turf represents roughly 25 house addresses, where the dedicated activists of The Fighting 34th are tasked to hang a very attractive and informative door hanger.

As the Precinct Chair of Precinct 34, I took on six of these Turfs, representing the East and Southeast sections of the Precinct.

I have completed two so far.
Each turf takes about 40 minutes.

My legs are tingling with excitement, hoping this effort gets Julie Holmer andi Kayci Prince representing us in the Plano City Council.
...
Many of my FB friends have no issues speaking of the failings of government officials, but are decidedly silent on what they are doing to affect a change in leadership.

I hope my neighborhood walks inspire you to vote and to GOTV.

Bring your bongos, maracas, shakers and musical noisemakers to the Allen Courthouse.

We will be staying the required 100+ Feet away from the door to the polling place, but providing some much needed rythmic and auditory fun, to (heh) drum up votes for Lauren Doherty to retain her seat as Alderperson of Allen.

While there, we will be advocating for Allen leaders who value logic, reason and problem solving over desired outcomes, spiritual belief and ignorance.

Be logical. Believe in a ln iterative progress.
Believe in leadership.

Believe in rhythm.

I'll be there from 10AM to 12:30PM.
I'll bring toys.

Statement from the BLM movement, 04/20/2021, 4:30PM CST.

“In these types of trials, the criminal justice system has historically failed Black families, further permeating and validating white supremacy within institutions. Today, however, there is a small incremental step toward accountability.

We hope this guilty verdict begins to show that white supremacy will not win. White supremacy has no place in democracy, especially one that is supposed to guarantee us our freedom to live.

But let us also be clear that this still does not bring our loved ones back. We do not get George Floyd back. His daughter and family have to grow up without him. His family continues his legacy through the George Floyd Memorial Foundation

And Black Lives Matter will continue to call for abolition because we ultimately believe abolition will ensure the freedom of Black people.

BLMGNF will continue to work toward abolition and Black liberation – one where Black people across the diaspora thrive, experience joy, and are no longer defined by their struggles. We will continue to heal the past, re-imagine the present, and invest in the future of Black lives.”

A quick reminder.

Make every City Council candidate, County Commissioners Candidate, and Sheriff's Candidate get on the record on the following:

2) Their position on legalization, and how current laws are or are not equitablity enforced.

3) Excessive force use by law enforcement, and ideas to curtail the same.

Advice for anyone running (or thinking about running for local office, especially city council or school board):

1. Have a track record of service BEFORE you run.
2. Know your district, not just your neighborhood. Neighborhood issues may be important, but you are running district wide.
3.. If you don’t have the mental, emotional and physical endurance, don’t do it.

4. Read 1-3 daily.

"I feel for Representative Dean and all the House Managers, because not only did they witness the Capitol under attack by a MAGA supporting mob on January 6th, but also because today had to present evidence and bear personal witness to that attack in front of Republicans Senators desperately trying to ignore the Truth, and desperately trying to treat it as a waste of time.

But it is not a waste of time because whether or not the ex-President is impeached, or whether or not they do the right thing to keep him from holding office again, it is important that, one time as a nation, we look this straight in the face as it is laid out definitively for the impeachment and premeditated violation that it is.

Because, by only facing this truth will we have any hope of stopping it again from happening."

GOP Rep. Ron Wright dies following Covid diagnosis

https://www.cnn.com/2021/02/08/politics/ron-wright-congressman-dies/index.html

Texas has lost a regional leader. Rep. Wright (R-TX6) recently got elected to Congress, representing Arlington in Tarrant County.

For those of you who are nay-sayers about the COVID-19 epidemic, Mr. Wright aligned with many of his Republican colleagues and more vocal constituents, downplaying the seriousness of COVID-19, and refusing to wear a mask.

The pandemic does not care about your beliefs.

Please wear a mask in public.
Please stay physically distant.
Please don't leave the house unless you absolutly have to.
Please get vaccinated, and don't forget to be up on your Influenza and other shots.

Don't do it for your politics.
Do it because it keeps you and your friends and family, and your community, safe.

Republican Rep. Ron Wright of Texas has died, his congressional office announced in a statement Monday, saying that he had been admitted to the hospital after contracting Covid-19.

Legislative Reference Library of Texas: Governor's Emergency Items

My dear friend, Sharon Hirsch, commenting on Governor Greg Abbott's State of the State address, broadcast on 02/01/2021.

Please read, and be aware.
---
Last night, Governor Abbott gave his “State of the State” remarks. Usually delivered in a packed chamber at the Capitol, Abbott turned to primetime TV due to COVID-19 restrictions on large events. The governor painted a rosy picture in terms of economic recovery post-pandemic and pledged to put “hard-working Texans” at the forefront of the legislative agenda.

Abbott identified his five emergency items, which can now be voted on in the first 60 days of the session. His priorities include expanding broadband internet access, preventing local governments from “defunding the police,” changing the bail system, election “integrity” and providing civil liability protections for individuals, businesses, and healthcare providers that remained open during the pandemic.

He also wants the legislature to enact laws regarding civics education, further restrict access to abortion, make Texas a “Second Amendment sanctuary state,” expand telemedicine and prevent any governmental entity from shutting down religious activities. Abbott appeals to the base Republican voters with these priorities. Note: Speculation is that Abbott may face a primary challenge from the even father right in his 2022 re-election bid and that he is considering a presidential run in the future.

Personal notes: Texas continues to be home to the largest percentage and number of uninsured individuals in the country yet there was no mention of Medicaid expansion. Last session, the legislature failed to extend postpartum healthcare coverage to women or provide continuous coverage for children on Medicaid. Pandemic relief did not make the list of emergency items.

The governor commented that Texas should continue to make promised investments in education, without increasing taxes, did not address STAAR testing or whether the legislature would “hold harmless” districts from lost state aid due to remote learning, or any efforts to make vaccination of teachers a priority.

Given there has been no evidence of any election irregularities, I believe our focus should be on expanding opportunities for all eligible Texans to vote with ease and safety. Look for Republicans to propose making voting more difficult. While Texans support tighter background checks for gun owners and extreme protection laws that remove guns temporarily from those who are a danger to themselves and others, Abbott suggests loosening regulations even further and made no mention of the mass shootings in El Paso and Odessa.

Police and criminal justice reform were not broadly addressed. The Democrats have proposed detailed legislation that have focused on police violence and accountability. While Abbott wants to erode local control, Democrats trust local jurisdictions to make decisions that meet the needs and interests of their communities.
For the past decade, Texas Republicans have focused on conservative social issues rather than the real issues that face Texans on a day-to-day basis. This is clearly reflected in the priorities of our Collin County elected officials as well. Look for more of the same this session.

Here’s an explanation of how emergency items work in the Texas legislature:
