Max Moore Tree House Project

Max Moore Tree House Project The Max Moore Memorial Tree House is a universally accessible tree house that will be built along the Saranac River Trail in Plattsburgh. Get involved!

The Max Moore Memorial Treehouse, to be built along the Saranac River Trail near the Plattsburgh Police Department headquarters, will be a universally accessible treehouse, thanks to a special ramp that will help anyone, even those with mobility issues, experience what it’s like to be up in a tree. The treehouse is named after local pediatrician Dr. Heidi Moore’s late son Max, who utilized a wheel

chair and would have loved to be able to play in a treehouse if he had the chance. People of all ages and abilities will enjoy this unique facility along the scenic Saranac River. The Max Moore Memorial Treehouse will add value to our community by giving everyone a safe place to play, fish, or simply relax and enjoy the view. This project was initiated several years ago by Dr. Moore and the City of Plattsburgh. The city procured the first design sketches of the treehouse from The Treehouse Guys, LLC, a Vermont-based company specializing in design and construction of unique treehouse structures around the world. Two years into the planning process, Max Moore passed away. In 2012, local Zumba instructors Autumn Love and Ashley Cousens had an idea for a Zumbathon fundraiser on Plattsburgh City beach. The two were inspired by the local Vision2Action movement and wanted to get involved in a local project that would increase recreation opportunities in the community. Picking up with the plans for the treehouse project seemed a natural fit. From there, more partners joined Ashley & Autumn in efforts to raise funds. To date, over $32,000 has been raised toward the project! Project partners include: Sunrise Rotary, City of Plattsburgh & City Recreation Department, The Advocacy & Resource Center,
Saranac River Trail Advisory Committee, and Vision2Action. We are always looking for more community partners, volunteers, and contributions! Email [email protected] for more information or to get involved in specific projects. Check back here often for updates on the project, volunteer opportunities, and upcoming events and fundraisers! To donate to the project, checks can be made payable to "City of Plattsburgh", with "Treehouse Project" in the memo line and mailed to 6 Miller St, Plattsburgh, NY 12901. Donations will be tax deductible this way, as they are intended for a public project.

If you can find it in your heart, please consider making a donation. Checks can be made out to City of Plattsburgh, with "treehouse project" in the memo line. Please mail donations to 6 Miller Street, Plattsburgh, NY 12901. Thank you for your generosity in sharing this post and helping us complete the project! See how far we've come?!

Hey Everyone! Things are really happening at the treehouse site these days! Check out our progress! We could still use some extra dough to make sure we can finish the project and have some for maintenance in the future.

Wow! THANK YOU to our amazing volunteers this morning!! I can't believe it, but we kind of did two days' worth of work in one morning!! So there will be NO volunteer work day tomorrow (Sunday). Please spread the word! The silt fence is in and the foundations have been moved down the embankment, closer to their final destinations. We will let Dave and his machinery do some work this week and we plan to be working down at the site on the weekends from now on, so please feel free to come lend a hand any weekend. I'll keep everyone posted on this page about what's going on, so please check in if you want to help! :) It's all coming together thanks to this amazing community.

SATURDAY! We have another opportunity for volunteers to help with the treehouse! We need people who can DIG! Can you dig it? (see what I did there? ;) ) Anyway, we need help with digging foundations, setting sonotubes, assembling rebar, and re-positioning the silt fence! Please B.Y.O.S. (Bring Your Own Shovel!) if you can! We appreciate all the help we can get. Meet at the Treehouse site at 9am on Saturday morning and we work as long as we have help! Please please please share and help us out!!
