Most folks have been sitting around watching movies during the quarantine, but not Craig and Marge Nickisch. With help from monetary donations from Gordon Wilks and Mohammad Safdar, they have been making and delivering shirt protectors for our residents! We have enough patriotic ones for each resident for holidays, and lots of fun, colorful ones for everyday use. We thank these two great Pocatello Rotary Club members for their continued support! Stay safe. #ISVHPocatello

To our valued community of Veterans, families, and supporters,

We strive to keep you informed during the COVID-19 public health crisis.

As of today, we have no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in any of our Idaho State Veterans Homes.

Please be assured that the Idaho Division of Veterans Services is continuing to implement aggressive precautionary measures, as well as follow the strictest infectious disease control protocols and follow the most current guidance of state and federal public health officials to ensure all possible steps are being taken to protect our residents and staff.

While the "No Visitation" policy remains in effect for an indeterminate length of time to reduce the coronavirus exposure risk to our residents and team members, “Virtual Visits” are now being offered at all three of our State Veterans Home. To schedule a time to virtually visit with your loved one, please contact your Veterans Home team at the phone number listed below.

We'd like to tell all our wonderful community volunteers that we miss you and hope to see you all in the near future. Spring is here! #ISVHPocatello

IDVS currently has several temporary opportunities for health and long term care related services!

• Dietary services
• Certified nursing assistants,
• Licensed nurse professionals

If you are interested in learning more and sharing your experiences and availability, please send your resume and/or contact:
Trudy Johnston in Human Resources at the Idaho Division of Veterans Services at
[email protected] or 208-235-7829. See more detailed information below.

"We at Veterans Services would like to thank you for your wonderful community support and helping in our mission: "Caring for America's Heroes". As always, our staff at IDVS are taking very good care of our residents and our veteran servicemembers. We remain optimistic and have taken all the necessary measures to ensure continuity of care, with minimal disruptions in services during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
In order to maintain continuity of operations, we are reaching out to those health care related staff that may have experienced short-term layoffs, reduced work schedules, or may otherwise be facing hard economic times. Currently, we have several temporary opportunities for health and long term care related services (certified nursing assistants, licensed nurse professionals, health screeners for our employees and limited visitors, and potentially nursing home operational support). Our needs exist in all three state-wide Veterans Homes (Boise, Pocatello and Lewiston). These are paid positions, and depending on the position, could lead to permanent full time employment at Veterans Services if future vacancies become available. These temporary positions do not qualify for state employee insurance benefits, and the hours may be very sporadic. Nonetheless, it may be the perfect opportunity for some, especially during these very trying and stressful times. Please note these positions will be subject to applicable background checks for health care and long term care workers. Current or previous checks within the past 3 years would be valid.

If you are interested in learning more and sharing your experiences and availability, please contact Trudy Johnston in Human Resources at the Idaho Division of Veterans Services at [email protected] or 208-235-7829.

Hiring is done without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age or disability. In addition, preference may be given to veterans who qualify under state and federal laws and regulations.

Thank you in advance for your consideration. Please stay safe, healthy and don't forget to take care of all of our neighbors, friends and family who may be in need."

03/17/2020

Due to the rapidly changing information and guidance received related to the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, on March 13, 2020, we implemented critical new measures necessary in order to protect our nursing home residents, who are at highest risk for infection and complications from COVID-19.

With large congregations of our vulnerable population, nursing homes are extremely susceptible to quick spread of the virus. As such, the following precautionary measures are essential and are based on the newest direction received from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):

1. Temporarily, there will be no visitation in Idaho State Veterans Homes except in the case of end of life care situations.

2. Processes are being implemented to allow remote communication between residents and others.

3. An active screening for fever and respiratory symptoms is still in effect for all residents, health care personnel, and those authorized, under special circumstances, to enter an Idaho State Veterans Home. Those exhibiting a fever of 100.4°F or higher or who have an affirmative response to any of the risk questions will not be permitted to enter the facility at any time (even in end-of-life situations).

4.Those visitors who are permitted, will be required to perform hand hygiene and must wear a face mask while in the building and their visit will be restricted to the resident’s room or another location designated by the State Veterans Home.

Unfortunately, at this time, decisions about visitation during an end-of-life situation will need to be made on a case by case basis.

03/13/2020

The Idaho Division of Veterans Services is taking the novel Coronavirus COVID-19 seriously. Our three State Veterans Homes are ensuring we minimize risk of exposure to our residents and continuing to provide the best care to our Veterans.

Although currently, there aren't any confirmed COVID-19 cases in Idaho and no suspected cases of the virus in any of our Homes, there is a risk that people who appear healthy will enter nursing homes and infect residents. As such we are encouraging family and visitors to defer their visitation until further notice.

Studies of past viral epidemics show that early intervention through limiting interactions with each other can significantly reduce the spread of the virus (such as social distancing, restricting interaction with others, and washing hands properly).
