City of Pocomoke City

City of Pocomoke City The Friendliest Town on the Eastern Shore! Our town was founded in the early 1700’s and was incorporated in 1878. Follow us on Instagram

We are a family-oriented city of just under 5,000 people located on the coast of Maryland on the Del-Mar-Va Peninsula. Our city rests against one of our greatest attributes, the banks of the Pocomoke River which is one of the top scenic rivers in America. We are an ideal community in which to raise a family. Children can easily walk or ride their bikes from one of our many neighborhoods to our awa

rd winning Blue Ribbon Schools, boasting numerous state championship sports and fabulous after-school programs. In 2009 we were recognized for the second time as one of only 15 finalists in the nation-wide All-America Cities competition, a distinction that is another source of great pride for our city. Come and enjoy one of our many scenic attractions that make up our downtown area. Take a stroll along our one-half mile river boardwalk, explore our nature trail which begins in Cypress Park, complete with pavilions, restrooms, a children’s playground, and a outdoor amphitheater. Take in a movie or a show at The Historic MarVa Theater, capture the very essence of our history with a tour of The Delmarva Discovery Museum and learn about what makes Pocomoke City and the surrounding areas so very special. Visit one of our other two museums rich in local history, The Sturgis One Room Schoolhouse and The Costen House. A source of great excitement for us is the opening of our riverfront restaurant, Dockside which is a boat accessible! Whatever brings you to Pocomoke City, Maryland, we hope you enjoy your time here and find your own reason for calling Pocomoke City a great place to visit and a wonderful place to live.

By Resident Request: Property Maintenance & Code Enforcement Guide

Last night, several residents asked for a simple, easy-to-understand list of common property maintenance issues that could result in a code violation. We appreciate the feedback and have created the attached reference chart to help.

This guide is intended to provide a general overview of common conditions that may require attention and to make information more accessible without residents having to search through City Code provisions.

Please note:

• This chart is a general reference and is not a substitute for the City Code.
• Every property and situation is unique and will be evaluated on its own circumstances.
• The purpose of this guide is to educate and inform residents about common property maintenance standards.
• Receiving a notice does not automatically result in a citation and often begins a process to bring a property into compliance.

As the City continues its efforts to improve neighborhoods and community appearance, we remain committed to providing clear information and open communication with residents.

We appreciate those who suggested creating this resource and encourage everyone to review the attached chart.

Today marked an exciting milestone for Pocomoke City as community members, local officials, and project partners gathered for the ceremonial ground breaking. Today's ground breaking represents more than a building of a Wawa. It reflects the momentum taking place throughout Pocomoke City and the confidence that businesses, residents, and visitors continue to place in our community. Each new investment helps strengthen our local economy, create opportunities, and build upon the foundation laid by those who have helped shape our city's success.
