Today was a busy day for Pomfret Fire. At 12:56, we were toned to respond for a tree down on a power line. Engine 3 responded with a crew of 3. On arrival, it was determined that there was no fire hazard. We ran traffic control as Green Mountain Power resolved the issue.

At 14:46, just after returning to quarters, we were toned to respond as mutual aid to Bridgewater for a brush fire. Squad 1 and Engine 3 responded with a total of 7 firefighters enroute. While responding, units were cancelled, as Bridgewater Fire Department made a quick stop.

Members then cleaned our stations out and trained with new equipment for our weekly Tuesday night training.

On 4/23/26 around 13:40 hours, Pomfret-Teago Fire Department was asked to respond to a power line down on the Barnard/Pomfret line. Due to the high fire danger today, the downed line sparked a brush fire of approximately 1 acre, burning uphill through a dense forest with dry fuels.

Due to quick work with our partners from the Barnard and Broad Brook Fire Departments, the fire was contained swiftly, preventing what could’ve been a large scale incident. Thank you to our mutual aid partners. Units cleared the scene around 15:30.

This serves as a reminder to use caution with high fire danger and report hazards like downed lines immediately. Outdoor burning is prohibited and questions can be directed through the Fire Warden.

This morning, members trained with our wildland equipment, including our Squad and Ranger unit. Following our recent brush fire, we trained on pumping apparatus, pulling lines, and drafting from a water source to refill tanks. This kind of training prepares firefighters for brush operations during the fire season. As a reminder, outdoor burning requires a permit, and no permits will be issued until further notice.
