Delivered another great project for Arlington National Cemetery this week. They had a bunch of historic photos they wanted to have printed and framed for display.

We received the files, made the needed graphic design alterations, printed high resolution prints with UV safe ink on a photo satin heavy weight paper and had framed.

A huge shout out to Sung at Art Galaxy in Germantown. He did an amazing job as usual. If you have prints, painting portraits that you would like matted and framed he is your guy. Art Galaxy is located in the building behind Royal Bagel and Deli in Germantown.

Not many people understand why Thursdays guest would trade in a 30+ year career in network & local television production for a Pampered Chef Consultant business, but not many people have faced losing their life, their love and their happiness as often as Joy has.
If you’ve ever worked alongside Joy on any project or watched her pursue something of interest, then you know she leads with her heart, consciously choosing each step on her life path, carefully.
While Joy still produces special projects for NBC4, she’s quick to tell you that her real passion lies where her other two businesses converge... Pampered Chef and her personal concierge business, the Joy of Time.

OPPOSE House Bill 581 - Employment Standards During an Emergency

Take Action - Please Read
Oppose House Bill 581 / Senate Bill 486
Employment Standards During an Emergency

I can’t overemphasize how important it is for you to contact your legislators to let them know that this would be devastating for your business. THIS BILL WILL KILL JOBS.

ACT NOW and CONTACT YOUR LEGISLATORS and oppose HB 581, tell them now is not the time to implement new, costly, and complex employer mandates as Maryland's job creators struggle to overcome the implications of a global pandemic.

The Employment Standards During an Emergency (Maryland Essential Worker Protection Act0 legislation is proposing:

1) Hazard Pay - If passed, HB 581 would require employers to pay workers defined as essential an additional $3 per hour in hazard pay dating back to the start of a state of emergency. The definition of “essential” is extremely broad and covers a significant number of employees who are not teleworking. (p.4-9 of the bill)

2) Financial Assistance for healthcare costs - The bill would require employers to provide financial assistance for unreimbursed health care costs to each essential worker who becomes sick or is injured if the sickness or injury is related to the emergency. It does not require the employee to prove that they contracted said illness at the workplace.

3) Right to Refuse Work - If passed, the bill will afford essential employees the right to refuse work. This gives employees the discretion to make this decision, at the moment, without a mechanism for addressing abuse or verification by the employer.

4) New Leave Program - The legislation creates a new leave program whereby employers will be required to provide at least 3 days of bereavement leave and 14 days of health leave. Health leave is defined as paid leave during an emergency due to the worker’s illness or other health needs related to the emergency. Again, it does not require the employee to prove that they contracted said illness at the workplace.

5) Extends Beyond COVID Emergency – The bill does not specifically mention Covid and is written to cover a wide range of “Emergency” without establishing whether a particular industry defined as essential would be impacted by a said emergency.

A hearing has been scheduled this Friday on House Bill 581

We also urge you to submit written opposition to this bill through the Maryland General Assembly’s online portal. Instructions on how to submit written testimony can be found here. If you need help on this, let me know and I’ll walk you through it. Written testimony MUST be submitted between 10:00 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3rd.

IMPORTANT NEWS FOR ALL BUSINESSES:
I hope you can find most or all of the information useful as we aim for what's to come in 2021.

Rental Assistance Part of New Relief Measure
Congressional leaders struck a deal Sunday on a nearly $900 billion coronavirus relief bill that will bring a new round of support to millions of Americans before year’s end.

The agreement contains many priorities; including rental assistance, a fresh round of funding and simplified forgiveness for SBA loans, and more direct payments to Americans.

“Through this bill, our members will continue to have access to unemployment and small business assistance. But perhaps one of the biggest wins is rental assistance, which we have fought hard for since the last major COVID-19 bill was passed in April. It will bring instant relief to both mom-and-pop property owners and American families in danger of going over a financial cliff at the end of the year,” says Shannon McGahn, chief advocacy officer.

Specifically, the agreement reportedly:

Provides a new round of direct stimulus payments of $600 to most Americans including dependents
Extends all unemployment assistance, including the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA), through April 19, 2021, with a $300 weekly boost in payments through March 14.
Unemployment benefits are extended to the self-employed
Provides an additional $284 billion for Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans and $20 billion for Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) grants
Allows certain eligible businesses to receive a second PPP loan
Creates a simplified forgiveness process for most PPP borrowers
Allows for deductibility of business expenses paid for with PPP funds
Provides $25 billion to the states through Sept. 30, 2022, for rental assistance and allows landlords to apply for funds on behalf of tenants
Includes payments for rent in arrears as well as utilities and other expenses related to housing
Extends federal eviction ban through the end of January
Provides $7 billion to states for broadband expansion, including $300 million for rural broadband
Provides new money for schools and vaccine distribution

Congressional leaders will begin consideration of the agreement Monday alongside a $1.4 trillion spending bill to fund the government through September 2021.

The government funding bill reportedly contains several items of importance, including:

Extension of a group of tax breaks known as tax extenders, some permanently or for multiple years
Increase in fair housing funding
Two-year expansion of the business meals deduction
Extension and expansion of the Employee Retention Tax Credit
Permanent extension of the Section 179D deduction for energy efficient commercial buildings, with some enhancements
Five-year extension of the mortgage debt forgiveness exclusion
Expansion and improvement of the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit

“Take 10 on October 10” to: 1. Check your smoke alarms 2. Practice a home fire drill 3. Update your family emergency kit Key Home Fire Stats: * Occupants have fewer than 2 minutes to get out of a burning home * The public greatly underestimates the danger of smoke and heat, and overestimate their abilities to escape a fire * 3 out of 5 home fire deaths result from fires in homes without working smoke alarms * More than one-third (38%) of home fire deaths result from fires in which no smoke alarms are present * The risk of dying in a home fire is cut in half in homes with working smoke alarms * The idea that “it-won’t-happen-to-me” is the biggest challenge
