EHD….Epizootic Hemorrhage Disease …is a fatal , viral disease found in white tail deer 💔Caused by tiny midge flies 💔Late summer, early fall is when it’s most commonly seen💔High fever causes the infected deer to seek out water 💔Symptoms are high fever , severe weakness , swelling in head, throat and tongue , excessive drooling and loss of fear with humans 💔Spread exclusively by the fly bites but is not passed directly to other wildlife or humans 💔There is NO TREATMENT, and death usually happens within 36 hours 💔Some deer build an immunity and survive but not very often💔Fawns are also susceptible to this 💔This particular buck was one that I did not raise , but lives here on my place ❤️Mother Nature can be very cruel some times 💔Drought conditions cause midge flies to breed in shallow , stagnant and muddy water 💔I get a lot of calls late summer early fall with this exact situation 💔There is no treatment 💔But keeping drinking areas clean is definitely helpful ❤️In years past , there have been many outbreaks , where areas lose hundreds of deer durning severe drought conditions💔EHD is incurable but outbreaks typically end with the first hard frost of the year! Killing the fly😊
