Talk to your school board trustee about your likes and dislikes concerning the CCISD school system's proposed saving strategies. Convey any ideas to help with their decision on the closure/ consolidation/ tax increase. Ask them how they intend to address the funding issues. That is transparency.

A 3 cent VATRE is also being proposed along with the closure and consolidation as part of the savings strategy. Keep in mind that MMC is also requesting additional funding, be it from the county, or from the creation of a hospital district. Either way will result in increased taxers!

Local hospital faces uncertain future amid projected budget deficit
July 15, 2026
During a budget workshop held July 8, members of the Calhoun County Commissioners Court and leadership of local hospital Memorial Medical Center (MMC) confronted questions... Well, between the Calhoun school district and hospital, the county is facing upwards of 10 million in deficits for 2027. As the judge stated, big adjustments have to be made in order to balance those budgets. Hard decisions are in order.

Wondering why the commissioners court is appointing the same people to the hospital board of directors? Maybe due to a lack of applicants? I see no improvement with following this action! The appointment vote is on Wed. This week. Call your commissioner.
