We have over 100 people registered to attend the Regional Autism Training Event on Oct. 24 at Portage High School, but there is room for more who would like to learn about autism and how to interact with those on the spectrum.
Also a big THANK YOU to the Portage Kiwanis Club for donating to help defray the costs of putting on this program.
The Portage Township Autism Action Coalition, organized by Portage Township Trustee Brendan Clancy, and the Porter County Search and Rescue Team will host a Regional Autism Training from 8 a.m. to noon, Monday, Oct. 24 at Portage High School West auditorium.
Seats are still available for this important event.
Capt. Gerald Turning, a 25-year law enforcement veteran, father of an 18-year-old son on the spectrum and president of Blue Bridge Autism Training will present the free program.
The training will be open to law enforcement, emergency medical services personnel, educators and others who would like to learn more about identifying individuals on the spectrum, understanding sensory challenges, overcoming communication challenges and strategies for de-escalating situations from Porter, Lake and LaPorte counties.
Law enforcement agencies attending will also receive logins for one training for officers not able to attend the in person event. Quantities are limited.

Speaker/Program:
Today we heard all about prescriptions and drug interactions from Dr. Lisa's husband Tai, a Pharmacist at the LaPorte Walmart. He pointed out than many prescriptions are cheaper on-line and to ask your local pharmacist questions as they have been trained more than most doctors regarding drug interactions and where you can get the best discounts.

Members were helping keep children safe by wrist-banding them to aid law enforcement if they become separated at the fair. We had a second group spreading the word about what we do to the public inside the Expo Center booth. The Porter Fair runs thru this Saturday night. Thank you the Porter County Central Communications E911 for allowing us to help today.

Thank you Portage Kiwanis and Exchange Club of Portage, Indiana for hosting this event for our veterans.
The Community Garden is seeing a lot of growth this year, from strawberries to chives and even the addition of a music garden thanks to Portage Kiwanis! Such a fun outdoor space for everyone to enjoy. Interested in lending your green thumb or looking to have a shaded outdoor picnic? The community garden is located through the west double doors in the cardio center.
What an impressive community event! Had a fun night attending Hebron Havoc 5, a benefit for two Hebron educators. The crowd was rowdy and the wrestlers were impressive!

Saturday, we had a great time at the Portage Kiwanis Easter Egg Hunt and Pancake Breakfast. I enjoyed meeting new people and chatting with long-time friends. I ran into Mr. Dixon, my former Willowcreek Middle School principal. He had a great influence on me as a young student, and it’s always great to see and talk with him.

Proud to be one of the sponsors of this community event and thank you to the organizers for doing such a great job. The pancakes were delicious!
Started this beautiful day out at Portage Kiwanis for their breakfast with Toni Downing for Porter County Auditor , Tiffany Gulley for Portage Township Board, and David Reynolds for Porter County Sheriff! The team hit the turf in Michigan City and we were full force in Portage! Let’s go!
When we told you we needed the community support in order to have a successful pool campaign, we weren't kidding. Thanks to
Portage Kiwanis for having our backs. They graciously got us in the running for grant money to help fund a SPLASH PAD as part of the aquatic center expansion. Help us secure the funds and vote every day through March 17 by clicking on the heart on our tile! www.kiwanis.org/H2O
