Speaker/Program: Amy Armstrong with the City of Portage and the Portage Parks Department gave us an overview of things happening in Portage.
First off....there are currently no mask requirements at any events, so masks are not mandatory, and people can use their own discretion wearing them or not.

"PEP" is an acronym for Portage Events Partnerships, where people get together and brainstorm activities and events for things going on in Portage. There will also be an Apple Pie eating contest this year during the Fourth of July events...

The Fourth of July parade and fireworks events are ON!!!

The theme this year is, "Heroes Among Us", and groups are encouraged to design a float for the parade around this theme. Contact City Hall for an application for a float, or additional information about events.

You can also follow the links below to see a calendar of events the City and Parks Department are coordinating this year.

The Farmer's Market has around 50 vendors this year, as well as music.

June & July will feature Summer Flashback Movies near the Ampatheater
at Founder's Square Friday evenings at dusk, and are FREE.

Music In The Park is back this year at Woodland Park.

Check the links below for dates and times as there is a lot going on here to keep everyone entertained...

Speaker/Program: Graham Honaker, (a past President from the Downtown Indy Kiwanis Club) spoke about a book he had written called, The Cinderella Story...which covered the game plan behind Butler University's rise to prominence.
Butler was basically part of a small cluster of universities that were not really known for it's basketball prowess until they were with the back-to-back Final Four basketball championships in 2010 and 2011.
Graham covered some of the 14 Leadership Lessons he outlined in his book and how the winning basketball teams created a ton of money to help move Butler from obscurity into the limelight.

Each Sunday we will feature a project going on within the city, happenings within a department or someone who works hard to provide services to the community. This week looks at the involvement of the Portage Fire Department in the COVID-19 vaccination effort in Porter County.

Portage Assistant Fire Chief Dan Kodicek has been lending his skills to help get as many Porter County residents vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus as possible.

One day this past week, Kodicek was able to vaccinate 18 people, ages 16 to 96, as part of the Homebound Hoosier Vaccination Program.

Porter County Aging & Community Services (PCACS) has partnered with the Porter County Health Department to provide COVID vaccinations to eligible homebound Porter County residents.

Kodicek is on loan to the health department to make sure those residents who cannot travel and have no other way to reach a vaccination site, receive the vaccine.

He said he volunteered for the assignment and will continue on the task "as long as it takes to get Porter County healthy."

Porter County Aging & Community Services will assess and determine the eligibility of a homebound Porter County resident. If the homebound resident is eligible, Porter County Aging & Community Services will register the resident on the Hoosier Homebound Portal. Once the resident is entered into the portal, the Health Department will work with a local EMS provider who will go to the resident's home to administer the vaccination.
The resident will receive a phone call from the Health Department to schedule a date and time that the EMS provider can come.

Those interested in the program must qualify by reaching one of these two criteria: Due to illness or injury, the individual needs the aid of supportive devices such as crutches, cane, wheelchairs and walkers; the use of special transportation; or the assistance of another person to leave their place of residences OR the individual has a condition for which leaving their home is medically contradicted.
If the individual meets one of the above criteria, then they must also meet both of the Criteria Two requirements: There must be a normal inability to leave home AND leaving home would require a considerable and taxing effort.

If you are a homebound Porter County resident, or family member/caregiver for a homebound Porter County resident, please contact Porter County Aging & Community Services by phone at 219-464-9736 to register for the Homebound Hoosiers Vaccination Project.

The start of Portage K Kids Club.

This week our members with the Portage YMCA have started a K Kids Club. It has 40 charter members. They will meet on Thursday mornings with the students. The group will focus on small community service projects to expand their minds to helping brighten others lives.
Thursday they all colored and made signs wishing the NCAA Basketball players well on the March Madness Tournament. All of the drawings and signs were uploaded to a site for the student to view.

Thank you

Thank you Mayor Sue Lynch for supporting the Easter Egg hunt and the Myron Fessler scholarship fund.
How do you become a volunteer. When I was with my husband, no longer together we were Kiwanis members and used to help where I could. Is there a chance of joining again? I was a member of the Huntington Club.
We've just started a page called “Kiwanis Video Meeting Info”. This page could serve as a resource database of all Kiwanis Club’s video meetings so that others may join in and learn about your club or to share ideas. Come on and like the page and share your info. Check it out at: https://www.facebook.com/Kiwanis-Video-Meeting-Info-104258634621454
