I have become aware that this page is pretty much dead and the popular page is Portage Streets and Sanitation
I am posting here as food for thought. Portage residents have no way of knowing where the leaf pick up crews are working on a daily basis. So what I propose is that the community posts on the City of Portage Street and Sanitation Department pages the date they have leaves picked up in their neighborhood and what day their trash pick up is. This way the community will be able to follow the scheduled day they might be in their own neighborhood so they do not miss out on the trucks coming by. So many times I have raked my yard only to have the leaves blown back on it while they sit by the street for days or even weeks on end. Respectfully submitted.
I posted recently about the plows not getting anywhere near our mailboxes on Elmwood Street just off of Stone Avenue. As I explained then this is not a one time thing, this is the way our street is always done. They plow down the middle til just past our house, we are the 4th from the corner, and then sweep out and get a lot closer to the curb and mailboxes on the rest of the street. We have since had the snow plows down our street at least 3 times and even after my post still no closer to the mailboxes. But they are constantly plowing someone down in the cul de sac at the end of our street. They spend hours down there but can't plow out our mailboxes! Do they do anything about the people parking vehicles on the street after a 2 inch snowfall, NO! Guess my only option is to contact the Mayor's office. Portage should be ashamed of themselves forcing their citizens to either dig their own mailboxes out or get no mail. Especially their senior citizens.
It snowed most of the evening and part of the day. We have not seen ONE plow. There's over a foot of snow out there and my neighborhood hasn't seen a plow because we don't live on a through street. We're on Fern St. off of Evergreen. This is nonsense. We're residents. We pay taxes.
Only 48 hours after the rather light snowfall for the plow truck to finally come down our street? That's a new record low for Portage.
Thanks for the robo message about leaf pickup. Of course now that it has snowed and rained and frozen and the whole mess of piles of leaves are frozen to the ground it should be interesting to see how the heck you plan on picking them up Maybe next year start earlier and do more regular pickups? The pile frozen to the ground in front of my house sat there three weeks before the snow came, and not a leaf pickup crew in sight. Same stuff every year. It just gets tiring. Of course the last posting in here is from 5 years ago so I guess nobody pays attention to this page either.....sort of like the leaves
Must be a slow work day for city of Portage as they are driving around and stealing sale signs that are laying in residents yards. Other than trash and leaf pickup you have no reason to take anything from someones property.
I trimmed some trees and bushes at my home and set them by the curb. I know there is a truck that comes around with a giant claw and picks them up. Do I need to call someone and request that? I live in Lute Road behind the high school.
