Blackwater Draw took on the Roosevelt County Fair! 🎡✨ We had a great time showing our cool stationary display and sharing a little bit of what we do with the community.

A big thank you to our amazing staff and students who helped put the display together and make it happen! We appreciate everyone who stopped by to check it out! 🤠👏

We're honored to see Blackwater Draw serve as part of the inspiration behind the City of Portales' new logo. It's meaningful to know that a place with such deep history continues to be part of our story. We’re proud to call this community home!

For years, our city's logo featured a porch swing and the words "Gateway to a Good Life." It served us well, but Portales is so much more than that.

Today, we begin a new chapter with a logo that honors our extraordinary past while looking confidently toward our future.

The City of Portales is proud to unveil its new official logo. A powerful symbol that captures who we are, where we come from, and what makes our community unlike any other.

Our story begins more than 13,000 years ago, in the age of the Columbian mammoth, the saber-toothed tiger, and Bison antiquus.

Why this change? Because Portales is home to one of the most significant chapters in the story of human history.

The Clovis culture, named for the remarkable discoveries at Blackwater Draw, provides a window into some of the earliest known human presence in the Americas. The archaeological discoveries in our region tell a story of ingenuity, adaptation, and survival that is recognized around the world. By placing the mammoth and Clovis spear point at the center of our identity, we celebrate this global heritage while firmly grounding it here at home.

Our new logo is paired with a new tagline:

History • Heritage • Home

History — recognizing the discoveries that placed Portales on the map of world archaeology and early human civilization.

Heritage — honoring the generations of families, farmers, ranchers, educators, students, businesses, and innovators who have built this community.

Home — affirming that Portales remains a place of belonging, opportunity, and an exceptional quality of life.

This rebranding is more than a new image. It is a declaration of pride in our unique place in the world and a commitment to telling our story boldly, to residents, visitors, students at Eastern New Mexico University, and anyone searching for a community with deep roots, unlimited potential, and a remarkable connection to the past.

Whether you have lived here your entire life, have just arrived, or are visiting for the first time, this logo welcomes you to a place where ancient history and modern community come together.
