Orienteering is a sport of a lifetime where participants use a map and compass to navigate a course through unfamiliar territory. There are also events that take place in the city where participants navigate through local parks. Most events have a variety of courses varying from short and easy (2km) to long and navigationally challenging (up to 15km).

Let's face it, you understand orienteering maps but there are a few things that only the super duper map nerds seem to know. Want to be in on the secret? Join us for the October OUSA Forum on Thursday, October 23rd at 8:30pm ET.

The October Forum will feature a presentation and discussion hosted by the OUSA Mapping Committee, all about the kinds of things a non-mapper might want to know about the mapping standards for forest events.

Our Story

Orienteering is the competitive sport of navigation. Using a detailed map (and occasionally a compass on advanced courses) participants try to find the quickest route through a series of marked checkpoints. Orienteering can be enjoyed at a relaxed walk or a cross-country run; the essence of the sport is you finding your own unique route.

The Columbia River Orienteering Club offers orienteering events year-round in the Portland Oregon area. Beginners are welcome at events, and you do not need to be a member of our club to participate. You can find us online at croc.org
