Armenian Genocide Recognition Campaign 2015

Armenian Genocide Recognition Campaign 2015 Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/RecogCampaign There was a time in history when ethnic and cultural cleansing had no definition. U.S.

Many historians would refer to it as a "massacre", "massive killing", etc. The Turkish Government had a policy of organized ethnic cleansing and killed about 1.5 million Armenians, a significant portion of the Christian minority in Turkey, during the latter part of the Ottoman Empire. Agents of the Turkish Government captured, tortured, raped and murdered innocent people as a way of resolving "the

Armenian problem" before and following World War One. Those government organized massacres where not defined as "genocide" until the word was created as an example of a crime against humanity. In fact, when Raphael Lemkin, coined the word genocide in 1943, he specifically mentioned the massacres of Armenians by the Turkish Government as the first example of genocide in the 20th Century. officials, including the U.S. Ambassador and American Consuls in Turkey during the Genocide, along with foreign diplomats, described the killings in detail. Twenty-two countries and, 43 out of the 50 states in the U.S. and President Ronald Reagan have recognized the historical reality of the Armenian genocide. Despite this, the Turkish Government continues to deny the Armenian Genocide, so we initiated a campaign, which would raise awareness of the Genocide to put pressure on the Turkish Government to acknowledge this important part of their history during the year that we commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. This campaign will have different projects. We are starting the first part of our campaign by demanding that President Obama keep his promise to recognize the Armenian Genocide. During his 2008 presidential campaign Obama stated his view on the events of 1915:"My firmly held conviction (is) that the Armenian Genocide is not an allegation, a personal opinion, or a point of view, but rather a widely documented fact supported by an overwhelming body of historical evidence, the facts are undeniable, as President I will recognize the Armenian Genocide." In his 2014 speech on Armenian remembrance day President Obama used the word “Metz Yeghern” and called the events of 1915 “one of the worst atrocities of the 20th century” he also stated” I have consistently stated my own view of what occurred in 1915, and my view has not changed. A full, frank, and just acknowledgement of the facts is in all of our interests.” However he never recognized the events of 1915 as genocide as he had promised. To participate in this campaign please take a photo or video featuring the statement " Obama Recognize the Genocide "
and nominate 3 or more people to do the challenge. Please post your photo or video directly to our FB page,
