Volunteer This Holiday Season

Volunteers play a major role in the daily life of the Marine Corps community, and volunteering is great for the mind, body, and soul. While many of the traditional ways to give back, such as serving at a local soup kitchen or working at a food bank, may not be possible this year, there are still ways to give your time and talent. It just requires a little creativity.

Volunteering is a great way to get involved in your community, work together as a family, and spread some holiday joy. Consider volunteering this holiday season. Think about these three reasons to participate in volunteer activities.

Practicing her sight words with a salt tray! 👆

http://mamapapabubba.com/2016/11/13/practicing-sight-words-salt-tray/

This is one of my very favorite ways to have kids practice their printing, sight words, and spelling words. It's waaaaay more fun than having to use a pencil and paper, fixing mistakes is a breeze {fun even - shake, shake, shake!} so it takes away a lot of the anxiety that comes with potentially making a mistake and the frustration that comes with constantly having to erase, and it's a sensory-filled process, which adds interest and holds kids' attention. 👊

Our tray is something I've had for years, but this one would be PERFECT {plus it comes in 9 different colours!}:

Oooh! This multi-coloured one would be SO MUCH FUN too:

Best of all, all expenses are paid by the Virginia Board for People with Disabilities, including food and lodging! Only 25 students will be selected through a highly-competitive application process, but those lucky students will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to develop themselves and make brand new lifelong friends! The next Youth Leadership Academy will take place on the campus of Virginia State University from July 8-12, 2018. Participation is limited and applications will only be accepted through March 16, 2018.
