Thankful Tuesday: As you should know, Governor Northam restored 69,000 convicted felons rights to vote(https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/03/16/politics/northam-virginia-voting-rights-former-felons/index.html).

We are extremely happy to state that the reasons for our foundation, Man (Jackie’s family) and Keith(Velvet's family) are in that number. So you may ask what happens next? They have to register to vote, so the MAN foundation will host a voter registration drive event in the next few weeks.

We will have special invited guests and other resources at this drive-thru event. Check your inbox, social media and text messages for pertinent information.

This is a huge win for our foundation as we turn 6 years old this year and we are so glad that our 2 reasons and many many people get to vote.

If you need help checking your status, then inbox, email [email protected] or call us at 757-295-8787.

The MAN Foundation sends condolences to the family and friends of Codey Simmons. Codey was a former participant in our program and received the Superlative for the class of Most Likely to Succeed. We are deeply saddened by his passing as he was an active participant in our program and kept us updated on his dreams and goals. We appreciate the opportunity that God allowed our paths to cross with him as he made the world a brighter place. We recently learned of his passing and wanted to share our condolences and his services are as follows:

Motivational Monday: On this Saturday, then we collaborated with Suffolk Public Library to present a presentation on how to help your children cope with having an incarcerated parent. Our presentation went through the creation of our foundation and then into what questions to ask and statements to say to children affected by parental incarceration. When dealing with this subject, then we suggest using books, videos and have them enroll in a program if applicable. We always use books as bibliotherapy to help children to cope and understand and 2 of our favorite books is BOSS Stories from BOSS Authors & Book Club and our sister, Q’s book, Our Moms from BRC Building Resilience in Communities and we use the videos on incarceration from Sesame Street. We also include the ACEs in our presentation to show how it can ultimately affect adulthood. We use our platform to speak all across the country in schools, correctional centers and conferences even Zoom. If you would like to book us for your next event, then contact us at [email protected].

The MAN Foundation would like to give a happy birthday shout-out to “Man” who is the inspiration for the foundation. People often wonder how our foundation was birthed and it was birthed from the pain, passion and purpose of a real-life story. We tell it all from the initial arrest(Portsmouth City Jail & Hampton Roads Regional), being in correctional facilities (Nottoway and Saint Brides)to coming home as a returning citizen. We thank God for the pain as it fueled our purpose for a greater cause! #meninprison #womeninprison #massincarceration #prisonreform #1in14 #childrenofincarceratedparents #allcitizensdeserveasecondchance #justicereform #recidivism #incarceratedparents #criminaljusticereform

Giving Tuesday:
Every year for the last five years during winter break, then we provide gifts for children of incarcerated parents and we visit the prison as representatives for The MAN Foundation. This year, we will be hosting a Christmas parade for a group of children from their incarcerated parents from one of our partner facilities. They will get an opportunity to receive a gift from their incarcerated parent and see Santa Claus and his elves via their car window as a band plays. We also will be sending cards and books to several correctional facilities to let the incarcerated population know that we care.

The MAN Foundation wants to congratulate our Executive Director and Founder’s cousin, Angela Walker for getting her rights restored. This was the first time that she has been able to vote and what’s even more exciting is that it’s a crucial time in history and one of the most important elections in our life time. These are the stories that we love to hear and share especially when they hit so close to home. #everycitizendeservesasecondchance

Im about to cry! Five years ago on yesterday, then I was giving birth in a board room with my board members who acted as doctors, nurses and midwives. Faithful Friday: Today is the MAN Foundation’s 5th birthday and we have a video and testimonials for you on tomorrow. However, on today we are still working and making connections. One of the men from our first cohort (he’s been home for 10 months)at the Portsmouth City Jail needed a bike to get back and forth to work, so we connected him with Mr. James Cullen. Mr. Cullen graciously gifted this young man a bike, so that he could continue to get to work. Our foundation is forever grateful for his kindness and eagerness to help our “brother” from our first cohort partnership with Portsmouth Sheriff's Office. We ask that Mr. Cullen is blessed a hundred fold for his generosity.
