Successful Saturday: Where do we begin? God gave Dr. Walker the vision to create the MAN Foundation in 2015 and we didn’t know what would happen from the day we started. We trusted God and allowed Him to put us in the necessary places and with the right people to help our dream become a reality. Here’s just a recap from July 2020-July 2021:

-Jennifer’s Closet: A closet in partnership with Portsmouth Sheriff's Office to collect clothes when individuals are released from jail or prison to wear to interviews etc.

-Exemplar Award from the The Hampton Roads Gazette: Our Chair, Dr. Velvet Smith was awarded this award for her excellence with our organization.

-Webinars & Seminars: Dr. Walker & Dr. Smith provide various seminars and webinars about prison reform, mass incarceration and children of incarcerated parents across the country to include a standing partnership with Suffolk Public Library.

-Community Christmas Drive-thru for the families of incarcerated individuals in Portsmouth City Jail

-Voter Registration Drive: The first registration drive for returning citizens where Gov. Ralph Northam restored the rights of 69,000 convicted felons. We were even recognized on Gov. Northman’s page.

-Advocated on behalf of clients in facilities in the Virginia Department of Corrections

-2nd Annual Father and Family Dance in the Portsmouth City Jail in partnership with the Portsmouth Sheriff’s Office

-Partnership with Nonprofit VOTE to ensure disengaged voters become engaged

-The inspiration for the foundation Man’s rights were restored, voted for the first time and was released from probation for the first time in his life.

We thank God for all that we have accomplished. However, if you would like to donate to us for our anniversary, then you can:

Travel Tuesday:

🚨Dime & Diva’s Roll and Press rolls every week.🚨

We set up a tote bag station at the The MAN Foundation and Portsmouth Sheriff's Office Family and Father dance. Families were able to choose their tote bag and preselected design, “My Dad’s Dream for Me”

Let us come and set up a Favors Station at a kids or adults’ party where your guests make favors for themselves or the guest of honor. We come and set up the table to include the various standard and personalized sayings for a plethora of products. Once done, then your guests will have a party favor that they helped to make for themselves or the guest of honor. Lastly, if you’re making gifts for the guest of honor, then we put them in a personalized keepsake gift box.

Enjoy the pictures as you select a date that you want Dime and Diva at your event, so that you and your guests can roll and press.

Book us on TODAY! [email protected] or 757-295-8787

Faithful and Freedom Friday: On Saturday, June 19th (Juneteenth & Father’s Day Eve), then The MAN Foundation in partnership with Portsmouth Sheriff's Office held the 2nd Annual Father and Family Dance at the Sheriff’s Training Academy. It’s always an emotional event especially this year due to the pandemic because there are no weekly visits.

This is an opportunity for the incarcerated individuals and their families to bond even while the parent is still incarcerated. We have a brief program and then the remainder of the event is for the families to eat, play games, talk and listen to music. We love doing this event more than anything due to the impact that it has on the children and the incarcerated individual.

It takes many people for a successful event and that is why we are ever so grateful for our sponsors and vendors but most importantly our board of directors, Sheriff Moore, Colonel Waters and Leah Drake Stith.

Special shout out to our sponsors and vendors:

$5 Dollar Friday: We are exactly 1 day away from our Father’s Day event for incarcerated individuals and their families. Please consider donating $5, $15, $55 or $500.

June is a BIG month for M.A.N.! It’s Fatherhood month and the month when one of founders, Ms. Jennifer was born. We are raising money for our Father and Family dance at the local jail and the grand opening of Jennifer’s Closet. The Father and Family dance started in June of 2019, but due to COVID could not be done in 2020. However, we want to make this special for these families in 2021. Jennifer’s Closet accepts new and gently used clothes for incarcerated individuals to have when they are released from jail or prison. Please help us reach our goal of helping these individual by donating monetary support before June 19th for both events.

The MAN Foundation would like to send a Happy Heavenly 66th Birthday to one of our founding members, Ms. Jennifer Jones. She was very instrumental in the creation of our nonprofit organization. We have created Jennifer’s Closet which is a partnership with The MAN Foundation and the Portsmouth Sheriff's Office. Jennifer’s Closet is dedicated to one of our founding members, Ms. Jennifer Jones (who died unexpectedly in February of 2020)which is designed to help currently incarcerated individuals and returning citizens with clothing. Clothing will be used for re-entry events and people being released. We miss and love you until we meet again!

Winning Wednesday: Our inspiration for The MAN Foundation voted on yesterday for the first time in his life. Man is a behind the scenes person, so he never wants to be in the limelight. However, he’s constantly winning mini successes to include being a registered voter.

The MAN Foundation will continue to hold voting registration drives all over the state to ensure returning citizens register to vote!
