If COVID-19 Closed Your Pool or Gym, Can You Skip Paying HOA Fees?

Many residents have asked about a potential refund in HOA fees due to temporary closure of amenities. The following article explains why a refund is unlikely, and how the funds are still allocated towards the community.

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced many of HOA-run facilities to close. Which begs the question: Do you still need to pay HOA fees?

Here is a news release from the 'All About Algonkian' newsletter regarding an update on Whitewater Drive:
https://myemail.constantcontact.com/Algonkian-District-News-and-Information.html?soid=1133737867889&aid=hMyVxrIPKBk

"As part of its 2020 paving schedule, the Virginia Department of Transportation will be implementing a road diet on Whitewater Drive. A road diet is a technique in transportation planning where the width of the road is reduced in order to achieve traffic improvements. This particular road diet will include the creation of a bike lane. There are several advantages of road diets such as:

โ€ฃ Reductions in vehicle speeds
โ€ฃ Mobility for cyclists and pedestrians
โ€ฃ Low cost
โ€ฃ Greater visibility at intersections

The project has also been changed to accommodate feedback from constituents who attended the virtual town hall. Some of the changes include:
1) A high visibility crossing at Bank Way
2) A left turn lane extension by Lowes Island Elementary School
3) Keeping the crosswalk at the intersection of Whitewater and Algonkian and
4) Dashed lines for the right turn lane into Lowes Island Elementary School.

Lowes Island Elementary School also expressed its support for the Whitewater Drive road diet.. You can find more information about the project by clicking here: https://files.constantcontact.com/17afa08f701/606b7c65-d5a0-45dc-b351-8a8df4c62f25.pdf."

On Monday, June 8 the Cascades Board of Directors voted to open the tennis courts in accordance with guidelines set in the 'Forward Virginia' outline. Multi-court sites will open half of their courts, and single courts will open in full. The courts will open as soon as possible, and the management staff will provide an update when the tennis courts are available for use.

The Cascades Board of Directors voted to keep the following facilities closed through Phase One or at least until the next board meeting on Thursday, June 25:
Pools
Fitness & recreation centers
Bocce ball courts
Basketball courts
Tot lots

The Cascades management office remains closed to the public through Phase One. Although the office is closed, the Cascades management staff is still operational and residents are welcome to contact the office via phone and email.

Cascades Community Pool Operations:
Cascades pools remain closed through Phase One. We are working in conjunction with our pool vendor as well as cleaning and staffing companies to ensure compliance with the Virginia Governor's Executive Orders. Phase Two continues to place restrictions that severely affect the use of the pool. In Phase Two, use is limited to lap swimming, diving, instruction and exercise (aerobic, stationary activity with 10 feet social distancing) only. Regular swimming is prohibited in Phase Two.

Management has recently received several complaints regarding residents of the community feeding wildlife. Although your intentions may be good, animals are coming onto neighboring properties, leaving food scattered, and destroying lawns.

One tip from Loudoun County Animal Control for wildlife is to eliminate sources of food from your yard. We kindly ask that you are considerate of your neighbors concerns and their property and refrain from feeding wildlife around the home and on Common Areas.

If there is wildlife living in the area that seem to pose a threat to you or any domestic animal, please contact Animal Control at 703-777-0406.

They can also be contacted via email: https://www.loudoun.gov/4118/Animal-Services

The state has created a new website, https://www.stayhomevirginia.com/, to assist individuals affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Various resources and tools are listed for renters, homeowners, landlords, and the homeless. There is a black cat in our neighborhood-Whitewater Drive, between Sharpskin Island and Pennrun, that appears injured. It has a slight limp and on it's back there is a thick stripe of brownish mud or dried blood. Does anyone know if this cat has an owner? We are concerned about it. Message Debra Cave

I have a qualified buyer looking for a home in Cascades (backing to trees preferably).๐Ÿก If anyone will be listing their home soon or agents have a listing coming could you please contact me at 703-606-4156 or message me? Thank you! Cindy Allen, Broker Metro Premier Homes
Hello - is this an HOA sign? It doesnโ€™t look like the others. I understand that the basketball court is closed. I have not seen anyone playing basketball for at least a couple of weeks now. The point of these closures is to enforce social distancing and keep people not from the same household from interacting. A toddler running up onto the blacktop while on a walk with only household members does not endanger anyone. Please donโ€™t call the police on someoneโ€™s toddler, neighbors.
