Happy 58th Birthday SVFC!

On August 16, 1966, Engine Company 11 was chartered in Sterling Park. The original Ford/LaFrance engine was housed in the barn, formerly part of the Edwards Dairy Farm, on W Holly Ave. Initially an all volunteer company with one station and soon running multiple engines, Sterling expanded to a second station, becoming the first multi-station company in Loudoun. As demand for service grew Sterling led the way to what is now the Loudoun County Fire and Rescue by hiring the first paid firefighter in the county. Today, over 100 volunteers spend hundreds of hours each week maintaining and staffing an engine and ladder truck alongside our LCFR partners. Together we honor those who have gone before us by continuing to offer the highest quality fire protection to the citizens, businesses, and visitors to Sterling.

Welcome back sir! Great to see you back!

Today’s a very special day for our Fire and Rescue family! After a long and extensive recovery, Lieutenant Chris Kerkstra has returned to work and is the officer assigned to Engine 619 (Dulles South) today! Lt. Kerkstra sustained significant injuries during the February 16, 2024, catastrophic home explosion on Silver Ridge Drive in Sterling that took the life of fellow firefighter Trevor Brown and injured several others.

Please join us in welcoming Lt. Kerkstra back to work!

Today (and last night) ((and again today…Saturday)) the SVFC with Canteen 611 was supporting the search and rescue efforts of the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office, the Virginia State Police, and Loudoun County Fire and Rescue, along with LCFR’s REHAB 623. We were providing hydration to searchers operating in high heat conditions.

First responders are not the only people who need to hydrate on these hot days. Stay inside if you can, pace yourself if you must be outside, and hydrate well. Call 911 if you believe you or someone with you is experiencing a heat emergency.

Happy Father's Day to all the fire and rescue dads who are serving their communities today and every day, and to dads everywhere. In particular, though, this year, we are thinking of those for whom this Father's Day is a tough one. For those who today are remembering a fallen firefighter--our hearts are with you today and every day. We honor their service.
