🔥 Grill Smart. Prevent Fires.
Grilling and outdoor cooking are great ways to enjoy the summer—but a few simple safety steps can help prevent a dangerous fire.
✅ Keep your grill at least 10 feet away from your home, deck railings, and anything that can burn.
✅ Never leave a lit grill unattended.
✅ Keep children and pets a safe distance away from the cooking area.
✅ Keep a spray bottle of water or proper fire extinguisher nearby for emergencies.
✅ Clean grease and fat buildup from your grill regularly.
✅ Never grill indoors, inside a garage, or beneath an enclosed area.
✅ When finished, make sure the grill is completely cool before moving or storing it.
🚨 If a fire starts, do not take unnecessary risks. Get everyone to safety and call 911.
A few extra seconds of preparation can prevent a fire from becoming an emergency.
Grill smart. Cook safe. Protect your home and family. 🧯🔥

🚒 Escape Planning Saves Lives 🚒

A fire can spread through a home in just a matter of minutes, leaving very little time to react. The best way to protect your family is to have a home fire escape plan before an emergency happens.

The LaGrange Fire District encourages every household to:
🏠 Create a home escape plan and review it with everyone in your home.
🚪 Identify at least two ways out of every room, if possible.
📍 Choose a safe meeting place outside where everyone will gather.
🚨 Test your smoke alarms monthly and make sure they are installed on every level of your home and outside all sleeping areas.
🔥 Practice your escape plan at least twice a year—once during the day and once at night.
🚶 If the smoke alarm sounds, Get Out, Stay Out, and Call 911 from a safe location. Never re-enter a burning building for people, pets, or belongings.

Taking a few minutes today to prepare can make all the difference tomorrow. Talk with your family, make a plan, and practice it—because when every second counts, planning ahead can save lives.

⚠️ Carbon Monoxide Safety Reminder After the Storm ⚠️

Recent storms have left many homes without power, and we know many residents are relying on portable generators and other alternative power sources.
Please protect yourself and your family from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. Carbon monoxide is an invisible, odorless gas that can become deadly in minutes.

Remember these important safety tips:• Never operate a generator inside your home, garage, basement, crawlspace, or enclosed porch—even if doors or windows are open.• Place generators at least 20 feet away from your home, with the exhaust directed away from doors, windows, and vents.• Never use a gas stove, oven, charcoal grill, or propane heater to heat your home.• Ensure you have working carbon monoxide alarms on every level of your home and outside sleeping areas.• If your CO alarm sounds or anyone experiences headache, dizziness, nausea, confusion, or weakness, move everyone outside immediately and call 911.

Your safety is our priority. Please use generators safely, check on elderly neighbors and family members, and help spread this important message.

The LaGrange Fire District wish you and your family a Happy and Safe 250th Fourth of July!

As you celebrate, please remember that fireworks can be dangerous and are a leading cause of injuries and fires during the holiday. The safest way to enjoy fireworks is by attending a public, professionally conducted display. If you are using legal consumer fireworks where permitted, always follow these important safety tips:

🎆 Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose nearby.
🎆 Never allow young children to handle or ignite fireworks.
🎆 Light only one firework at a time and maintain a safe distance.
🎆 Never attempt to relight a firework that fails to ignite.
🎆 Keep fireworks away from dry grass, leaves, mulch, and other combustible materials.
🎆 Dispose of used fireworks by soaking them thoroughly in water before placing them in the trash.

Together, we can help prevent fires and injuries while celebrating our nation's birthday.

🇺🇸 Stay safe. Stay responsible. Have a wonderful Independence Day! 🇺🇸

As our area continues to experience extreme heat, we encourage everyone to take precautions and stay safe. Please take advantage of local cooling centers if you need relief from the heat.

Remember to:
Stay well hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
Limit time spent outdoors, especially during the hottest parts of the day.

Check on elderly family members, neighbors, and anyone who may be more vulnerable to heat-related illnesses.
Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle.
Stay cool, stay hydrated, and stay safe.

Cooling center has been set up in the Town of LaGrange meeting room, upstairs in LaGrange town hall. Operating hours are Wednesday, 7/1 and Thursday, 7/2, from 8:30am-4pm. Stop by, cool down, chat and relax a bit. Please share with someone you know who may need some daytime relief from this heat.
