AN IMPORTANT PLEA TO OUR FIREFIGHTERS: START WEARING FACE MASKS!! I have to be extra careful in public for the health of my wife, because Firefighters and Police Officers feel as though their exempt from doing the RIGHT THING and wear a Face Masks. Your post shows how worried for your members, but your members DO NOT show concern or respect for the communities they serve.

I have yet to encounter a FF or PO wearing a mask in public here in Prescott and in my travels to the Phoenix Metro area. Members of these organizations have the most risk to exposure in the course of their job, but do little to mitigate exposure or continued transmission.
We have NO Compassion for "HEROES" that are unable to set the example to the rest of the Arizona Community. Masks do offer some level of Protection against exposure or transmission.

Don't be a sheep and follow the WEAK Leadership of President Trump, or Governor Doug Ducey. Don't wait until Ducey mandates face masks, LEAD BY EXAMPLE!!!!!!!!!

Be a Good Human and WEAR a DAMN MASK

WFGI BOARD OF DIRECTORS STATEMENT REGARDING THE MOVIE "ONLY THE BRAVE"

Only the Brave is a Hollywood movie based on the personal stories of only- surviving member Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot Crew Brendan McDonough, deceased Superintendent of Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot Crew Eric Marsh, and Eric’s wife, Amanda Marsh. The movie is based on several true events, but in no way, is it a documentary, nor is it historically accurate. It is neither an accurate accounting of the Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot Crew or the events of the Yarnell Hill Fire, where 19 of the 20 man crew died.

The WFGI feels, that it is imperative, the public know that the Yarnell Hill Fire is one of many incidences where wildland firefighters have died in the line of duty. In the Yarnell Hill Fire, one of our directors' and a officer lost their son, two directors lost their husbands, and another officer lost his friends, and his crew-members. We know the devastation of losing a loved one. We know the sting of reopening wounds caused by anniversaries, birthdays, holidays, and memorial services.

Many of us learned through social media, friends, or the news media that our loved one had died. That is not how a wife should learn that her husband has died. That is not how a mother should learn that her son has died. That is insensitive, and it was wrong.

We went from being private families, to sharing our loved one with the public. Our loss was public. Our grief was public. Our struggles were public. Our fight was public. With this movie their deaths are marketed as heroic, and their actions brave, to sell the story of only three individuals. No other families have profited in any way from this movie.

WFGI understands that the Yarnell Hill Fire is historical. In no way do we believe that the legacies left behind by each fallen Granite Mountain Hotshot is his death. Rather, the honorable life that he lived, the professional way he worked, and the huge love he had for his family. This is especially true for Andrew Ashcraft and Billy Warneke.

We ask that you not only remember the Yarnell Hill Fire, but all other incidences where a wildland firefighter perished or was injured. We ask that you remember that wildland firefighters risk their lives to combat wildfires, not for fame and fortune, but because it is their calling, and one of their many passions.

Know that this movie will not answer questions about what happened that day, outside of loss. Nor does it represent how any of the other families, outside of the two mentioned earlier, reacted or dealt with this tragedy. Remember this is a Hollywood movie. It does not show complete truth, it is just a movie. The WFGI first word in our motto is truth. We stand for: Truth, Transparency, Accountability and Change.

We still seek change....

Station Fire Initial Attack

This is what Firefighters need to be aware of, Fire Severity at or above dangerous historical thresholds Unknown/Unstudied. This is a lesson learned from Yarnell!.

Fire leadership needs to have a better understanding of the fire environment to better determine the most appropriate management actions when a fire event occurs under severe and dangerous fire conditions!

Groom Creek Fire District

More updates

Beginning in November of 2015 The Groom Creek Fire District staff and Fire Board began the development of a 10-year Strategic Plan. At the March 1st meeting of the Fire Board, a final plan was adopted. The plan uses some financial assumptions that show a level 5% increase in growth for the period with the fixed operating costs remaining stagnant. The Board and staff understand that this is rather unlikely to happen, but the plan is a starting point for the budget workshop that takes place each March. [ 133 more words. ]

It is with great relief that we update you all

GCFD HAS MET the immediate need to satisfy the County Treasurer by June 30th.. the method is an approved loan from Country Bank thank you very much . What this means is we get to keep our fire Department!

The Travis Turbyfill Wellness Fund has taken on as one of our projects some very fun events to be announced soon for the fire district to pay back the loan. These activities in addition with the opportunity of each homeowner in the district to donate should make us whole again. We have a great team of firefighters! we need them. Lesson learned in this situation is communication and compassion we look forward to meeting all of our neighbors this year. This community was Travis's childhood and in his honor we want to help keep it beautiful and safe.

The immediate need has been met... the fire district has been saved. Now the long-term work begins

The Groom Creek Fire District received a proposal from Country Bank for the $225k in financing that was requested to shift our short term liability into a longer term debt. After a meeting with the County Treasurer to insure that the terms of the financing are acceptable, we have asked the bank to proceed with the proposal and provide relief to the District. Groom Creek Fire District in Crisis; We Need Your Immediate Help!

GCFD is under threat of Closure on June 30 2016 by Yavapai County Treasurer due to a negative balance. Since 2010 GCFD has continued providing services despite Falling Property tax values causing tax receipts shortfall.

GCFD is looking to raise 225k, Property Owners just got the news this week and have started to Donate to save the Department. The District provides services to 1000 Property owners. The Department is paid, staffing a 2 man Engine Company Full time, the Fire Chief and Board have trying to work this out, but are coming up short, and Firemen being proud, have not asked for help, I am asking for them. Please Donate some small amount and Please Share. Here are the Links to the GCFD Web site for more Information.

07/01/2015

Hello, thanks for the well wishes and concerns on this day. Today is of course a symbolic day for all to take a moment and reflect on lives of GMHS crew and the impact they have on all of us. Shari and I visited the deployment Site this morning, spent some time there. Came back to the Court House and viewed the Auction for the site to be purchased for a State Park. Heading to the Cemetery for a gathering of Family members.
With the gain of a Leap Second of time today, today of all days, I will have more time to remember Travis.
I love Travis, and continue to be a proud father.
