People who have a chance to visit our historic courtroom are always fascinated by the wire racks underneath our chairs. These racks served as a place for gentlemen to stow their hats while in court. Contrary to popular belief the racks weren't intended for the cowboy hat we normally associate with Arizona, the popular hat of a century ago was more like the derby hat pictured here.
Want to check it out yourself? The Division One Courtroom holds many sessions open to the public and even when our Presiding Judge is busy with the administrative details that keep Superior Court in Yavapai County functioning, you can often find friendly court staff to let you in to take a peek.
Special thanks to Bailiff Ryan Closson for use of his hat!
