O’Brien County officials are moving closer to installing temporary stop signs around the Highland and O’Brien wind farm repowering projects as construction activity increases. The board also discussed courthouse safety updates, maintenance contracts and facility improvements during its latest meeting.

O’Brien County Secondary Roads Department has a full-time opening for an Office Manager position. Provides a variety of accounting and customer service duties for the O’Brien County Engineer’s Office.

Duties but not limited to:
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, annual financial reports
• Prepare reports for the Iowa Department of Transportation for compliance
• Payroll, reporting, accounts payable
• General office duties, telephone, office equipment
• Computer skills with Microsoft abilities
• Prepare invoices for materials sold and services rendered
• Assists with phone calls, public inquiries
• Prompt, dependable, willing to learn, motivated
• Good communication skills

High School diploma, equivalent (GED), with a two-year degree or two years of related experience in accounting or related field is desired. Starting wage is dependent on experience. Public Road Right-of-Way Ordinance

To: Property Owners, Tenants, and Residents of O’Brien County.

O’Brien County's Public Road Right-of-Way Ordinance prohibits the obstruction and/or tillage of public road right-of-way which includes the road ditch and road shoulder.

O’Brien County Secondary Road Department is asking for the help and cooperation of each property owner, tenant, or resident in violation of this ordinance to remove the following items considered an obstruction from the right-of-way which includes the road ditch and road shoulder as soon as possible:

1. Fences or other obstructions of any kind placed within the right-of-way which includes the road ditch and road shoulder.

2. Debris, trash, burn piles, garbage, farm implements, vehicles, etc. placed on road right-of-way which includes the road ditch and road shoulder.

3. Planting crops and tilling on the right-of-way which includes the road ditch and road shoulder.

4. Removal of gravel, any surfacing materials, dirt, etc. from the right-of-way which includes the road ditch and road shoulder is prohibited.

The placing of these items along the road right-of-way including the road ditches and road shoulders may cause danger for others and liability for those in violation of the O’Brien County's Public Road Right-of-Way Ordinance.

The Ordinance does provide for a penalty which will be enforced against those who remain in violation of this Public Road Right-of-Way Ordinance. Those who are found in violation shall be guilty of a simple misdemeanor and punished by a fine of not more than $100.00 per violation.

Your time, efforts, and cooperation in removing these obstructions from the right-of-way including road ditches and road shoulders will be appreciated plus aid in giving the road ditches and right-of-way a neat appearance. Thank you.

To: Property Owners, Tenants, and Residents of O’Brien County.

O’Brien County's "Public Road Right-of-Way Ordinance" and “Snow Ordinance” prohibits the obstruction of public road right-of-way which includes the road ditch and road shoulder.

Property owners, tenants, and residents in violation of this ordinance are asked to remove and refrain from placing the following items considered an obstruction in the public road right-of-way which includes the road ditch and road shoulder:

1. Fences of any kind placed within the right-of-way which includes the road ditch and road shoulder.

2. Debris, trash, burn piles, garbage, etc. placed on road right-of-way which includes the road ditch and road shoulder.

3. Snow: From private driveways placed on the roadway which includes the road ditch and road shoulder.

The placing of these items within and along the road right-of-way including the road ditch and road shoulder may hinder snow removal, create snow drifts, and increase snow removal cost along with causing danger for those traveling the roadway and liability for those in violation of O’Brien County's “Public Road Right-of-Way Ordinance”.

The Ordinance does provide for a penalty which will be enforced against those who remain in violation of this “Public Road Right-of-Way Ordinance” and “Snow Ordinance”. Those who are found in violation of this “Public Right-of-Way Ordinance” shall be guilty of a simple misdemeanor and punished by a fine of not more than $100.00 per violation.

Your time, efforts and cooperation in removing and refraining from placing obstructions in O’Brien County right-of-way including road ditches and road shoulders will be greatly appreciated.

Road Edge Cutting

Property owners, tenants and residents are asked to cut or otherwise destroy excessive vegetation on the road shoulder adjacent to their property. The removal of excessive vegetation on road shoulders will help with snow removal, prevent the formation of snow drifts, and help reduce snow removal cost. Each property owner or tenant’s time, efforts and cooperation will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
