Thank you to the over 70 community members who came to celebrate local producers, learn about conservation practices, and enjoy a delicious barbeque meal at our annual Farmers Cookout. Seeing so many familiar and new faces eager to connect was deeply encouraging for the future of cost-share programs in our District. We are also grateful for our partners from USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, Virginia Cooperative Extension, and VSU College of Agriculture for sharing their expertise with our community.

Youth Conservation Camp was Filled with Hands-On Adventure!

High schoolers across Virginia gathered at Virginia Tech for an incredible week at Virginia Association of Soil & Water Conservation Districts (VASWCD) Youth Conservation Camp 2026. We were honored to host multiple students from Prince George and Chesterfield County, uplifting young environmental stewards in our District. Highlights included:

-Tree Identification and Fire-Safety with the Virginia Department of Forestry

-Electrofishing and Fish Identification with the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources

-Hands-on labs with Virginia Tech College of Natural Resources and Environment

-Hiking to the beautiful Cascades Waterfall

-Meeting local animal ambassadors from Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center of Roanoke

-Interactive tour of the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine

We’re so proud of the hard-working students who brought so much curiosity and energy to each day of camp. We hope to see you in the field in the near future!
