3rd Street Reconstruction Project Update:

* Crews are finishing up remaining storm, sanitary sewer or watermain work on Thursday, September 3 and Friday, September 4.

* Temporary water will be disconnected in Phase 1 on Thursday or Friday.

* Removals in Phase 2 have been completed.

Week of September 7:

* September 8: Phase 2 will begin switch to temporary water.

* September 8: Sanitary sewer work will begin in Phase 2 and will continue throughout the week. Crews will be starting at 10th Ave and moving to the west towards the fairgrounds entrance and then along 14th Ave.

* Late in the week, the contractor may start grading and installing the gravel for Phase 1.

Landscaping and irrigation damaged during construction will be repaired once the roadway has been paved and the contractor is prepping for seeding.

The Great Northern Regional Trail (GNRT) is coming to Princeton!

The purpose of the Great Northern Regional Trail (GNRT) Alignment Study is to determine preferred alignments for two trail segment gaps along the GNRT corridor that extends from Elk River to Milaca.

We invite you to an upcoming open house to review potential trail alignments and provide input that will help guide the study’s recommendations. Princeton's open house will be on Tuesday, September 22nd, from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM. This open house will be hosted at the Great Northern Depot, which is located at 198 10th Ave S, Princeton MN, 55371.

General Maintenance II: The City of Princeton is accepting applications for a full time General Maintenance II position. Responsibilities include the maintenance of streets, airport, buildings, parks, storm sewers, cemetery, sanitary sewers, and the maintenance and operation of trucks, tractors, and other equipment. Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, 2+ years’ experience in the noted areas or similar, and a commercial driver’s license, or the ability to obtain one within six (6) months. Waste water certifications preferable or the ability to obtain them within two (2) years. A pre-employment physical and drug test is required. Pay range is $28.45 to $36.99, depending on qualifications. Please complete and submit a City application found at www.princetonmn.org. Completed applications are to be submitted by 4 pm September 14, 2026 via mail to Princeton City Hall, 705 2nd Street North; Princeton, MN 55371 or via email to [email protected].

3rd Street Reconstruction Project Update:

Crews are wrapping up watermain installation and expect to complete this work in the coming days.

Week of August 31

Phase 1:
Beginning next week, crews will start installing sanitary sewer and water service connections to homes. Work will begin near 3rd Street and 7th Avenue and move west toward 10th Avenue.

Phase 2:
The section of 3rd Street between 10th Avenue and the Mille Lacs County Fairgrounds, along with 14th Avenue between 2nd and 3rd Streets, will be reclaimed on Monday and Tuesday. During the work, the area will be closed to through traffic and will have a gravel surface.

Please see the attached phasing map for current construction areas and upcoming roadway work.

Non-City Work in the Area
CenterPoint Energy is completing gas main replacement work along portions of 3rd Street and 14th Avenue. Once the gas main is installed, crews will continue replacing individual gas service connections. This work is being completed independently of the City's reconstruction project. Questions regarding CenterPoint Energy work should be directed to CenterPoint Energy.
