An important community notification.

Please share this post widely!

As many of you know, we are in the middle of a big weather storm event which will continues to affect our community until approximately 7pm tonight.

Tidal water combined with the storm force winds to push a significant amount of water onto Commercial Street causing coastal storm flooding. While not as widespread as in the storm in January 2018, in some areas there was more than 1-foot of sea water in low lying areas.

Your first responders have been responding to calls for help all day.

We know now that many of our waterfront residential and commercial properties along the East and West of Commercial Street may have been exposed to this coastal storm flooding.

It is imperative that you check your properties immediately, ACT NOW do not wait. Contact your trusted caretaker, key-holder, property management company or if possible, visit in person.

Several properties have already reported flooding to us.

If your property has experience flooding, we recommend that you do the following.

Before you do anything, make sure to shut off any power around the area, including electricity, water, and gas. Never enter a flooded area while the power is on. If you aren’t sure how to shut these areas off, please call a qualified electrician or plumber before entering and beginning to work.

Wear boots and gloves for protection. You may also choose to wear a protective mask. Hip or chest waders may also be useful if they are available. Take care when walking and moving around the flooded area since it will likely offer itself as a slipping hazard.

Call your home or business insurance company and report the flood.

Confirm your coverage limits, deductible amount, and claim procedures.

It's a good idea to get a professional opinion when dealing with this. Depending on your specific situation, you might want to consult a plumbing contractor, a landscaping or excavating company, a disaster restoration specialist, or a combination of these. If your home insurance company is involved, may check to see if they have a specific vendor that they recommend for flood mitigation.

It is important to remove the standing water as soon as possible. But please know that no town departments can assist you with dewatering.

Temperatures are expected drop starting tomorrow night and remain there into the beginning of next week.

Power has been on all day with Eversource currently reporting zero customers without electricity in Provincetown currently.

We are here if you need us but call response time may be increased as the storm is still ongoing. Extreme cold weather will be hitting our area after the storm. If you have turned your power off, ensure that your water is also turned off to avoid freezing.

Please check on your friends or elderly neighbors who may be alone during this time. If you know of someone who needs to be checked on that has no one, please call us.

All of your first responder agencies are here to help you. Please call us anytime at 508-487-1212. As always for any emergency dial 911.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 24, 2021
PROVINCETOWN’S CONTINUED RESPONSE TO COVID-19 CASES
Update #2: Case Data and Surveillance Efforts
PROVINCETOWN, MA – Provincetown continues to work closely with county and state health officials to track and respond to the evolving COVID-19 cluster. Expanded testing and vaccination will continue through July 30th and have thus far proved to be vital tools in the response effort as participation numbers increase daily.
Surveillance Data
rd
Cases among Massachusetts residents are found to be predominantly symptomatic (71%), with 69% of affected individuals reported to be fully vaccinated. Apart from 3 hospitalizations (2 in state and one out of state) associated with this cluster, symptoms are known to be mild and without complication.
Case investigation to determine the extent of the Provincetown cluster is ongoing and multi- jurisdictional, with involvement from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and other municipal public health authorities throughout the state of Massachusetts. Genetic sequencing, a multi-step process that takes several weeks to complete, is being conducted at the Massachusetts State Public Health Laboratory and other labs to determine whether a variant of concern is associated with the cluster. Officials are awaiting these results and will share them as they become available.
Daily testing of wastewater in Provincetown will commence today. Wastewater testing has been a valuable surveillance tool and was conducted in Provincetown throughout the pandemic. The last wastewater sampling was conducted in Provincetown in spring 2021. Going forward, the wastewater testing data will indicate the presence of COVID-19 in the 50% of the buildings in Provincetown connected to the town’s sewer. Given the current cluster, presence of COVID-19 in wastewater sampling tests is expected.
As of Friday, July 23
to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health associated with the Provincetown cluster. Of these cases, 342 are Massachusetts residents, 153 of which reside in Provincetown. The remainder of individuals who tested positive reside in other states.
, 430 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 had been officially reported
Observed Improvement of Test Positivity Rates
Testing is the best way for health officials to gauge the impact of a cluster and the success of measures that are being taken to reduce viral spread. The number of cases is expected to rise as more individuals take advantage of testing opportunities available in Provincetown and surrounding areas. Further, test positivity rates (the number of tests that come back positive in relation to the total number of tests) have improved since surveillance of the Provincetown cluster began, from 15% to 9%. A test positivity rate of

Here is a joint press release from the Town of Provincetown, State Senator Cyr, State Representative Peake, Outer Cape Health Services, and Barnstable County Health and Environment on recent COVID cases in Provincetown.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Tuesday July 13, 2020
STATEMENT ON RECENT COVID-19 CASES IN PROVINCETOWN
from
Town of Provincetown
Outer Cape Health Services
Barnstable County Department of Health and Environment
Honorable Sarah Peake, State Representative
Honorable Julian Cyr, State Senator
PROVINCETOWN, MA – Officials with the Town of Provincetown, Outer Cape Health Services, Barnstable County Department of Health and Environment, state Representative Sarah Peake, and state Senator Julian Cyr are actively monitoring recent cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Provincetown, in consultation with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. The positive cases were identified in individuals presenting with mild respiratory symptoms and were tested for COVID-19.
Overwhelmingly, the affected individuals have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19. The moderate intensity of symptoms indicates that the vaccines are working as predicted. Provincetown has among the highest vaccination rates in the Commonwealth, with 114% of the eligible population age 12 and older in Provincetown having been fully vaccinated. Health officials expect to continue to see a low level of positive cases through the summer in a community such as Provincetown with a seasonal population of approximately 60,000. As we enter a new phase of living with the virus, vaccination remains our strongest defense in preventing serious illness, hospitalization, and death from COVID-19.
In response, town, county, and state officials are working to expand access to testing in Provincetown immediately. By appointment COVID-19 testing has been available at Outer Cape Health Services’ location in Provincetown continuously. Understanding that any report of new cases will prompt an increase demand for testing, additional testing resources from the Commonwealth will be available in Provincetown later this week. Details below:
• Mobile COVID-19 testing will be at the Veterans Memorial Community Center parking lot located at 2 Mayflower Street, Provincetown, off of Winslow Street. Testing does not require an appointment and is free of charge. Testing will be available on:
o Wednesday, July 14, 10AM-2PM
o Thursday, July 15, 10AM-3PM
o Friday, July 16, 10AM-3PM
• COVID-19 testing remains available at Outer Cape Health Services’ location in Provincetown. Individuals seeking testing can either call the Outer Cape Health Services Patient Access Center at (508) 905-2888 to schedule a test OR they can arrive at the Provincetown health center at 49 Harry Kemp Way and call from OUTSIDE: (508) 487-9395, ext. 1
We strongly encourage all who are eligible to be vaccinated. The vaccines are highly effective against primary infection, including the Delta variant. The mildness of symptoms among these cases is proof that the vaccines are working. A mobile vaccination unit called the VaxExpress is scheduled to be in Provincetown on Thursday, July 15. Vaccination is free of charge and all unvaccinated individuals are welcome. Details below:
• Mobile COVID-19 vaccination will be at the Municipal Parking Lot/Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority Bus stop between Lopes Square and Ryder Street Extension on Thursday, July 15, 8:30AM – 5:30PM.
