At approximately 3:00 p.m. today, public safety agencies responded to a report of three people in distress after being caught in a possible rip current off Herring Cove near Hatches Harbor.

A coordinated search and rescue effort was immediately launched involving Provincetown Fire, Police, Harbormaster, the National Park Service, U.S. Coast Guard, Massachusetts State Police, and other responding agencies.

All three individuals were recovered. Two were brought to safety and are reported to be in stable condition, while the third was recovered in critical condition and was transported to Cape Cod Hospital by the Provincetown Fire Department.

We are incredibly grateful to our first responders and partner agencies who worked quickly and collaboratively under challenging conditions to locate and recover all three individuals. Our hearts are with those impacted by today’s incident, as well as their families and loved ones.

Incidents like this are a painful reminder of how quickly conditions on the water can become dangerous. On behalf of the Town of Provincetown, we offer our support to all those affected and share our sincere gratitude to everyone involved in the search and rescue efforts.

“Station 4”- The pride of the “East End”-we know the line is debatable. While we no longer have 5 stations, we keep the name as this station houses Engine 4. Having the ability to staff this station allows for quicker response time to the east side of town, as well as having a central presence close to Commercial St. If you see our engine parked out front, please don’t hesitate to stop by and engage with the crew. There is also a water bowl and treats for any furry friends 🐾.

Thank you to the Crown and Anchor and the Provincetown Bears. We appreciate your generosity.

On behalf of the Provincetown Firefighters Association, we extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who joined us at this year’s Firemen’s Ball at the Crown & Anchor. Your generosity, spirit, and support made the evening an outstanding success and reaffirmed the strength of our Provincetown community.
We want to offer a special shout-out to the new owners of the Crown & Anchor, Tryst Hospitality, whose enthusiasm and partnership helped bring back and elevate this event. Their commitment to Provincetown’s first responders is deeply appreciated.
A heartfelt thank you goes to Manager Ryan Overberg, who approached the Association this winter with the idea of bringing the Firemen’s Ball back in a bigger, more meaningful way. His initiative, collaboration, and follow-through were instrumental in making this year’s event possible.
To the entire Crown & Anchor staff — thank you. Every member of the team was spectacular, welcoming, and fully invested in creating a memorable night for our community. Your professionalism and hospitality set the tone for the entire event.
And of course, we extend our gratitude to The Provincetown Bears, whose presence, energy, and support truly matter year in and year out. Provincetown is at its best when our communities come together, and the Bears continue to show up for us in ways that make a real difference.
Rest assured, these funds will be used to enhance our services to the community and its visitors through new equipment or training. Your support directly strengthens our ability to respond effectively, safely, and professionally whenever Provincetown calls.
Thank you for standing with us, celebrating with us, and supporting the mission of the Provincetown Firefighters Association. We look forward to seeing you again next year.
With appreciation,
Members of the Provincetown Firefighters Association

Please be careful with smoking materials and dispose of them properly. They were the leading cause of fatal fires last year.

Provincetown Fire Department — Busy Monday (July 13)

On Monday, July 13, the fire department had one of those busy Mondays—with 15 calls total: fire and medical. Of the 15 calls, 5 were actual fire calls.

🔥 5 Actual Fires:

3 mulch fires with extension to fences and vegetation
1 structure fire
1 outside garbage fire (approximately 2 feet from a structure)

🚒 The Provincetown Fire Department and our mutual aid partners' response helped mitigate significant property loss. Thank you, Truro, Wellfleet, Eastham, and Orleans FD.

🧑‍🚒 Squad 4 (Call Firefighters) and the daytime firefighters at Johnson Street were on scene first and provided the first initial attack, especially since 4 of the fires were in close proximity to the Johnson Street station. Thank you, Group 4 and Squad 4.

The two most significant fires occurred during the 5–7 PM period and were back-to-back, with crews having to overcome the challenge of not rehabbing the fire engines.

👏 Kudos to the fire call response: both to the call firefighters and the career firefighters who are working together to protect Provincetown: one mission, one fire department.

🙏 As always, Provincetown—thank you for your support. Your fire department is always “working”.

🚨 Safety Reminder:
-Please do not discard ci******es inappropriately.

-Monitor lithium-ion charging products and anything electrical while charging- unplug when charging is complete.

-Never discard any product used for ignition near or in anything combustible. Treat them as hazardous products.

🔥Please Use Extra Caution as Dry Conditions Mean Higher Fire Risk🔥

Please help protect Provincetown by using extra care with anything that can create sparks, embers, or heat. Never discard ci******es into mulch, brush, leaves, or from a vehicle. Open burning is never allowed in Provincetown, and fires are prohibited on Town beaches.

A few simple precautions can make a big difference:
• 🚬 Properly extinguish and dispose of smoking materials.
• 🔥 Never leave grills or outdoor cooking equipment unattended.
• 🌿 Clear dry leaves, pine needles, and brush from around your home or business.
• 🚗 Avoid parking over dry grass or vegetation.

If you see or smell smoke, notice smoldering mulch or brush, or spot even a small outdoor fire, call 911 immediately. Don't assume someone else has already reported it—early notification can prevent a small fire from becoming a major emergency.

On July 10th 2026 Provincetown Fire department responded to a central station alarm-Sprinkler low air supervisory @ 1:28 pm. Engine 1 arrived on location to a 3 story wood frame warehouse, no smoke or fire showing. Upon gaining entry the crew was met with smoke. Command was established our 1st alarm and an automatic line response was initiated. Within 2 minutes Provincetown Engine 5, Ladder 2, and Ambulance 3 arrived on scene, as well as car 1. The crews noted the sprinkler system had been activated. The fire was located in the rear of the building originating from a vehicle. The fire was extinguished and additional crews entered to search for extension and perform overhaul. No injuries were sustained during this incident.

We want to extend a thank you to our mutual aid partners for assisting us today which includes Truro FD, Wellfleet FD, Eastham FD, and Orleans FD. Thank you as well to the Provincetown Police Department for your assistance.

We also want to highlight the importance of functioning sprinkler systems. Today’s incident had the potential for much greater loss of property. Thanks to the fire suppression system and our dedicated firefighters and mutual aid partners the fire was contained🔥🚒

Mulch Safety.

Mulch is combustible and can easily catch fire. This is the time of year when mulch fires are on the rise. Be familiar with the regulations for spreading, storing, and manufacturing mulch and stay fire-safe this spring: http://ow.ly/vFuH50IwCyE.
