Chuck Wagon Rendezvous at the Goodnight Barn

Chuck Wagon Rendezvous at the Goodnight Barn This year's Chuck Wagon Rendezvous has been cancelled and we are working to bring it back next year bigger & better.

This years event will begin Saturday morning with tours of the Barn with period re-enactors, walk among the wagons and cooks as they prepare the dinner, silent auction items, vendors, and a true step back into the history of our area.

Since we were unable to provide our Chuck Wagon Rendezvous this year, we thought we would share this Chuck Wagon Dinner event with you, tonight at Florence’s Pathfinder Park. Some of our beloved Chuck Wagons and Wagoneers would be tickled to see you again!

We honor and remember the Chuck Wagon cook that got us started, Dave Wade. He was instrumental to our start in the Chuck Wagon events. He gave us the good news of our award from the American Chuckwagon Association, and he was a true friend and gentleman. He loved sharing his passion of the west with anyone interested. We are so grateful for his patience as we learned the ropes! We will miss him greatly and are sending thoughts and prayers to his family. A celebration of his life will be happening shortly at 4:30 P.M. today at Brush Canyon Ranch, 8760 Old San Isabel Rd in Rye. Our next Rendezvous will not be the same with out Dave - but he will always be in our hearts. Thank you kindly Dave.

It is with a heavy heart that the Chuckwagon Rendezvous Committee announces that we will not be hosting this year’s Chuckwagon Rendezvous at the Goodnight Barn. We were unable to resolve multiple issues, including working with the various governmental agencies & boards and just ran out of time.

We want to thank our past sponsors, chuckwagon owners, re-enactors and a multitude of volunteers who made the event possible for the last 2 years.

We were thrilled to be able to honor Charles Goodnight, who created/invented the Chuckwagon back in 1866, enabling us to raise significant monies for future bathrooms and an interpretive center at the barn. We feel it is important to educate our community about Charles Goodnight’s impact on America’s western history, including the significance of his barn and Rock Canyon Ranch here in Pueblo County. The restrooms are critical to hosting future events and educational classes, thereby increasing the visitation to the barn and helping it become self-supporting.

After 2 years of volunteering our time and money, it saddens us to lose the momentum we've built up with this event. We look forward to clearing the way for next year’s event and will keep you updated as soon as we are able to begin the planning process.

Please feel free to view the videos of last year’s event in the posts below on our page! Please help us by sharing our regrets with any friends & family who may not use Facebook.

Sincerely,
Bret Verna, Sally Carter Verna and Katie Bonham
