Upcountry Farmer's Market

Upcountry Farmer's Market Maui’s Premier Farmers Market
Saturdays 7-11 am
Kulamalu Town Center
55 Kiopaa St. Upcountry Farmer's Market has been operating on Maui first at St.

Joseph's Church over 30yrs ago. The Upcountry Farmer's Market moved after a few years to the Eddie Tam Gymnasium in Makawao town and existed there for approximately the last 30yrs. Value added food products were a vital part of the market. Unfortunately there was an incident of food poisoning and the market was shut down. It re-opened with restrictions, rules and regulations. The market vendors dw

indled to only a few maybe 3 regulars and 2 or 3 occasional and with even fewer customers. This was about 7 years ago when the acting manager was leaving and told me that I was the new manager by default. I did not know what responsibilities came with that but soon found out. In order for the market to continue I had to comply with many requests by the County of Maui in order to keep it running. The County of Maui has graciously allowed and supported the market through our ever expanding evolution over the years and assisted all of us with a mutually beneficial solution to our outgrowing the market location with a whopping 60 vendors. Yes we will be allowed value added goods again. The value added goods will have to come from the farmer and use the produce from ones farm on Maui. As of the 26th of June 2010 we have been freely given 100 spaces in Kulamalu Town Center by Everette Dowling, and the Dowling Company. There has been a tremendous amount of work that has gone into this and many thanks are due to so many. We wish to thank Mayor Tavares, The County of Maui Parks and Recreation Dept., Everette Dowling and staff, Council woman Gladys Baisa, Clark Hashimoto, Rep. Kyle Yamsh*ta, The County Planning Dept., Island Signs and countless others who have donated their time to make this a great community event.

Vendor Spotlight - Maui Mountain Coffee Company

Bobbie serves ready to drink hot coffee as well as cold brew (with cold brew ice cubes!) She also sells her beans whole and ground. Taste the difference of super fresh local coffee grown by Bobbie herself!

The farm describes themselves as “environmentally friendly, no herbicides or pesticides have been used on the farm in over twenty years. Only sustainable agricultural practices are used. Organic matter, compost and pelletized chicken manure are frequently added to improve the soil quality. The aisles of clover and grasses between the coffee rows are mowed to discourage weeds, and each tree is hand cultivated to encourage a healthy root bed. Since implementing these organic practices all the coffee plants have flourished; they are lush and prolific. There is a diverse insect community with lots of honeybees, praying mantis and ladybugs.”
