8/23/2026 Over the last 3 days members of our Special Operations Team along with Radford City Fire Department personnel completed the VDFP 3 day Surface Water Rescue Class.
This is the first level in becoming certified Swiftwater Rescue Swimmer.
Thanks to Radford Fire & Pulaski County Emergency Management for funding the course.

Use caution along Farris Mines Road in Allisonia and Max Creek in Hiwassee. These areas are experiencing or have experienced water across the road tonight.
Heavy rain fell across this area along with heavy rain to our south is creating minor flooding.
Don’t attempt to drive through flooded roads.

2/3/26 Special Operations Team members from Pulaski County Fire & Rescue took advantage of the icy conditions at Claytor Lake State Park to get in some ice rescue training.
Luckily it’s not something we face often but it is a risk we must be able to respond to if needed.
There were signs of persons being on the ice at some point since the recent snow fall.
